A General Summary of Version Changes

From InTouch v7.1 to v11.1

Overview

This document serves to briefly summarize the release changes from Wonderware InTouch v7.1 to the current
release which is Wonderware InTouch v11.1. The document will illustrate the progression of changes from
each earlier release to the most current release to date. A version by version approach is taken as a way to
summarize and simplify the information. In addition to this document, the actual ReadMe files and applicable
release notes accompany this document to give greater detail of each release. The version information
included in this general document does not supersede the Readme files or any other user documentation
included with the individual versions or those received directly from the software vendor. This document is
meant to be a high level guide that provides a summary of the revision history of the Wonderware InTouch
HMI software from version 7.1 to version 11.1, the purpose of which is to give a simplified view of the history
and general changes from revision to revision. To get greater detail of the particular release, please read the
individual product Readme files that accompany this document.

v7.1 (Aug 2001)

This release was a re-mastering of InTouch 7.1 with Patch 06 applied. This version also allowed the use of a
hardware key in addition to a license diskette. New features were introduced such as the ability to access
InTouch Applications over the Internet using the available FactorySuite Web Server, Application Publisher,
Alarm Logger, WindowMaker Enhancements, and Alarm Enhancements. Installing the software also required
the user to upgrade all FactorySuite components. The operating systems supported were Microsoft Windows
NT and Windows 9x. In Addition, there were 18 documented known issues recorded with this release. Please

v7.11 (Sep 2001)

This version also allowed the use of a hardware key in addition to a license diskette. Operating systems
supported were Microsoft Windows NT, Windows 2000 Professional, Windows 2000 Server or Advanced.
Microsoft SQL 7.0 SP3 or Microsoft SQL2000 were the supported database servers. This version also allowed
the user the optional capability of automatically installing MSDE 2000 if MS SQL was not detected in the
system. This version was not supported on Windows 3x or Windows 9x operating systems. There were 19

With this release came the introduction of the

 Distributed Alarm Subsystem utilizing Wonderware’s TCP/IP-based SuiteLink protocol,


 SuiteLink up-to-the-millisecond time stamping,
 An enhanced Distributed Alarm Object Alarm Display,
 Alarm enhancements that enables greater usage flexibility,
 New alarm fields,
 New Alarm Database and Alarm DB Logger Manager,
 Alarm Database Maintenance,
 AlarmSuite Database Migration,
 Alarm Hot Backup and Resynchronization

v8.0 (Dec 2002)

InTouch 8.0 was the first ArchestrA enabled version of InTouch, designed to integrate with Wonderware’s new
Application Server at that time. This enabled the application to browse the ArchestrA namespace to design
and deploy a fully integrated and extensible ArchestrA-based graphics application. With this release also came
the recommendation to elevate the privileges of users from Limited Users to Power User, due to the known
restrictions for Limited Users. Supported operating systems for this release were: Microsoft Windows 2000 SP3
or higher, Windows XP Pro SP1 or higher. Terminal services required Windows 2000 Server with SP3 or higher
with Windows Terminal Services enabled only in the Application Server mode. NetDDE was also supported and
required in this release to implement the distributed functionality of InTouch. Microsoft Windows 3.x, Windows
9x, Windows NT were not supported. There were 44 documented known issues with this release. Please see

v8.0 introduced the following features

 2 new security models, operating system (OS)-based security and ArchestrA-based security
 Improved support for FDA 21 CFR Part 11 Requirements
 Upgraded distributed Alarm Subsystem
 Alarm Toolkit
 ActiveX distributed alarm displays
 Alarm DB (database) view updates
 New alarm fields for FDA related information
 An enhanced alarm database
 The Log Viewer utility
 InTouchView designed specifically for use in an ArchestrA Application Server environment.
 The Change Network Account utility

v8.0 SP1 (May 2003)

Version 8.0 SP1 brought support for Windows Server 2003 Standard Edition, Version 8.0 SP1 Terminal Services
Edition brought support for Microsoft Windows Server 2003 with Terminal Server enabled. NetDDE was no
longer supported for InTouch running on Windows Server 2003 and later operating systems. There were
approximately 56 known issues and 145 resolved issues documented with this release. Please see the

There were also several enhancements with this release which included

 Enhanced Time Zone Support for the Alarm DBView Control,


 Script functions to adjust for daylight savings time,
 UTC Time and Date Function,
 Script function to display InTouch version information
 Cross-Reference query display,
 Additional colors for animation links,
 Support for changing colors in WindowViewer,
 Support for string data for Quick Functions,
 Support for Tagnames with numeric first characters,
 Increased number of characters allowed for conditional expressions,
 Script function to notify users of password expiration (Get Account Status),
 Vertical mouse release slider control

v9.0 (May 2004)

Version 9.0 was supported on Windows Server 2003 Standard Edition. For InTouch v9.0 Terminal Services
Edition, it was supported on Microsoft Windows 2003 Server with Terminal Server enabled. Terminal Server
client user names had to be members of the Remote Desktop Users and Power Users groups to connect to the
server and to run any applications on the server. When using the computer as an Alarms database server,
Microsoft SQL Server 2000 SP3 or later and Microsoft SQL Server Desktop Engine (MSDE) was supported. With
this release came the documented requirement that in order to write to the Industrial Application Server,
InTouch needed to be configured with the ArchestrA security mode enabled. NetDDE and earlier operating
systems were not supported. There were 13 documented known issues and 6 resolved issues with the release.

v9.5 (Sep 2005)

Version 9.5 came with certain installation restrictions, it was recommended not to install InTouch on a Domain
Controller and such an installation was not supported. InTouch v9.5 would not install on a computer with
Microsoft .NET Framework 2.0 Beta 2. For InTouch v9.5 Terminal Services Edition, it was supported on Microsoft
Windows 2003 Server with Terminal Server enabled. Terminal Server client user names had to be members of
the Remote Desktop Users and Power Users groups to connect to the server and to run any applications on the
server. InTouch 9.5 could be installed on a system without an existing installed version of InTouch or it could be
installed as an upgrade to a system that already had InTouch 8.0 or later. If upgrading from 7.11 to InTouch
9.5, the user was directed to uninstall InTouch 7.11 before installing the newer version. There were

v10.0 (Aug 2007)

Version 10.0 of InTouch provided a set of features and enhancements to existing features. This version was
more tightly integrated with the Wonderware ArchestrA environment. Installing the Wonderware Integrated
Development Environment (IDE) with the InTouch HMI allowed the user to centrally manage their InTouch
applications in a Galaxy Repository (database). This capability also allowed the user to utilize the Symbol Editor
and the Graphics Toolbox to take advantage of the new vector based graphics capability of the ArchestrA
environment. The Wonderware IDE provided an extensive set of graphic and scripting tools to create complex
symbols that could be embedded into InTouch applications. Upgrading to InTouch 10.0 was from InTouch 8.0
and later. Upgrading from InTouch 7.11 required an uninstallation of the older version prior to installing the
newer version. There were 25 documented known issues with this release. Please see the Wonderware InTouch

This release further introduced the following enhancements to traditional InTouch:

 Application Manager was updated to the current Microsoft standards. With the capability to launch the
ArchestrA IDE from within Application Manager.
 WindowMaker included a hierarchical project view that listed the windows and scripts that were part of
the InTouch application.
 Alarm viewer enhancements
 Run-time language switching enhancements.
 Multi monitor enhancements
 Terminal Server capacity was increased to support up to a maximum of 75 simultaneous InTouch client
sessions.
 The Tahoma font became the default InTouch font.
 Support to run under the Microsoft Windows Vista operating system.

v10.1 (Jan 2009)

Version 10.1 brought additional enhancements to the InTouch HMI software. There are 19 documented
resolved issues and 19 known issues with this release. Please see the Wonderware InTouch 10.1 Readme for
more detailed information related to this release.

Software enhancements introduced with v10.1

 Language switching for ArchestrA Symbols,


 InTouch licensing started accounting for and enforcing per session licensing for Terminal Service
sessions,
 The use of a non-administrative interactive user,
 Well known client control support,
 Printing enhancements,
 Deployed file management.

Note - Operating systems supported were the same as for InTouch v10.0
v10.5 (Oct 2011)

With version 10.5, installing the InTouch HMI on a computer used as a domain controller wasn’t supported.
The User Account Control (UAC) had to be disabled before installation. This release supported the following
updates: The default value for InTouch internal shared memory management (WWHeap) had been changed to
use more memory. InTouch Window Caching was added which allowed View.exe to support hybrid
functionality to keep some selected windows in memory while loading the rest from disk. In this release the
Alarm DB Logger was updated to run as a service to support Galaxy alarms and InTouch Alarms from terminal
sessions. To migrate legacy InTouch applications to this release, the following prior versions were supported:
versions 7.11 P07, 8.0 SP2 P04, 9.0 P03, 9.5 SP1, 10.0 SP2, 10.1 (All service packs and patches), 10.2. There were
26 documented resolved issues and 64 outstanding issues with this release. Please see the Wonderware

Features introduced with v10.5

 InTouch 10.5 provided support for more current Microsoft Windows operating systems such as
Windows 7 and Windows Server 2008 / 2008R2, as well as legacy Windows XP SP3, Windows Vista, and
Windows Server 2003 SP2 / 2003R2 SP2
 Blink Animation Synchronization
 Advanced formatting support for text
 The GetWindowName script function to expose the window name property
 Expression support for Minimum and Maximum limits.
 Licensing enhancements to enable all ArchestrA System Platform and client products to use a common
license file.
 Performance enhancements to provide user configurable optimized memory management for InTouch
windows.
 User configurable application resolution scaling
 Installation software is bundled together with other Wonderware products and ran from a single DVD
 Close Window Button added to the title bar of InTouch windows
 Added capability of the Thumbnail preview within WindowMaker

v10.6 (Nov 2012)

With this release FS Gateway v3.0 was installed as a hidden feature of InTouch HMI 2012R2 (10.6) in an
ArchestrA System Platform 2012R2 installation. Please note that to “upgrade” from previous versions the
user could upgrade directly from the following prior releases: versions 10.0 SP2, 10.1 (All service packs and
patches), 10.2. To “migrate” legacy InTouch applications to this release, the following prior versions were
supported: versions 7.11 P07, 8.0 SP2 P04, 9.0 P03, 9.5 SP1, 10.0 SP2, 10.1 (All service packs and patches), 10.2,
10.5, 10.5 P01. There were 62 documented resolved issues and 22 outstanding known issues with this release.

v11.0 (Nov 2013)

With this release FSGateway v3.0 SP1 is installed as a hidden feature of InTouch HMI 2014 (v11.0) in a
Wonderware System Platform (ASP) 2014 installation. Please note that to “upgrade” from previous versions
the user could upgrade directly from the following prior releases: versions 10.1 SP3, 10.1 SP3 P01, 10.2, 10.5,
and 10.6. To “migrate” legacy InTouch applications to this release, the following prior versions were
supported: versions 7.11 P07, 8.0 SP2 P04, 9.0 P03, 9.5 SP1, 10.0 SP2, 10.1, 10.1 SP2, 10.1 SP2 P01, 10.1 SP3,
10.1 SP3 P01, 10.2, 10.5, and 10.6. There were 26 documented resolved issues and 42 outstanding known
issues with this release. Please see the Wonderware InTouch 11.0 Readme for more detailed information about
this release.

Note - with the release of InTouch 2014 (v11.0) the SPCPro Supplementary Component was no longer included
as an installation option.
v11.1 (Dec 2014)

With this release FSGateway v3.0 SP1 is installed as a hidden feature of InTouch HMI 2014 (v11.1) in a
Wonderware System Platform (ASP) 2014R2 installation. Please note that to “upgrade” from previous
versions the user could upgrade directly from the following prior releases: versions 10.1 SP3, 10.1 SP3 P01, 10.2,
10.5, and 10.6, 10.6 P01, 10.6 P02, 10.6 P03, 11.0, 11.0 P01. To “migrate” legacy InTouch applications to this
release, the following prior versions were supported: versions 7.11 P07, 8.0 SP2 P04, 9.0 P03, 9.5 SP1, 10.0 SP2,
10.1, 10.1 SP2, 10.1 SP2 P01, 10.1 SP3, 10.1 SP3 P01, 10.2, 10.5, and 10.6, 10.6 P01, 10.6 P02, 10.6 P03, 11.0, 11.0
P01. There were 42 documented resolved issues and 6 outstanding known issues with this release. Please see
