Introduction
This lesson uses materials in the reading skills section on LearnEnglish Teens and focuses on
helping students plan and read E-mail. Helping students to develop their reading skills can be
challenging. Reading in class may be considered quite boring and some teachers prefer to get
their students to do reading work at home. However, the results of reading done at home can be
variable. In order to produce a good piece of reading work, students need to learn to plan
carefully before they start reading. Reading E-mail is one of the possible reading tasks. for their
exam. Reading E-mail should engage students’ imagination and can be turned into a fun,
collaborative and communicative experience.

Steps
1. The teacher asks the students whether they have e-mail or not
2. When did they use their e-mail the last?
3. The teacher asks whether the students have ever replied ‘Thank You’ e-mail?
4. The teacher gives the students some exercises in group
5. The students gives ticks on the exercises
6. The teacher gives ‘Thank You’ e-mail
7. Ask the student to read ‘Thank You’ e-mail
8. Ask the student about the content ‘Thank You’ e-mail
9. Give true/false exercise by asking them to stand up if the answer is true and
stay on the seat if the answer is false.
10. The teacher gives jumbled sentences from ‘Thank You’ e-mail
11. The student should arrange them without looking the notes.
12. Then the teacher asks the students to stand in line and report the result of
the group.
13. The student rewrite ‘Thank You’ e-mail without looking the notes
14. The teacher asks the students to create ‘Thank You’ e-mail by their own
words.
15. The teacher gives summarizes of ‘Thank You’ e-mail and ask the student
how to write their own ‘Thank You’ e-mail.
