Foreword
This translation has been made based on the original Japanese Industrial Standard
revised by the Minister of Economy,Trade and Industry through deliberations at the
Japanese Industrial Standards Committee as the result of proposal for revision of
Japanese Industrial Standard submitted by The Japan Iron and Steel Federation (JISF)
with the draft being attached, based on the provision of Article 12 Clause 1 of the
Industrial Standardization Law applicable to the case of revision by the provision of
Article 14.
Consequently, JIS G 3116:2010 is replaced with this Standard.

JAPANESE INDUSTRIAL STANDARD
JIS G 3116: 2013
1 Scope
This Japanese Industrial Standard specifies the hot-rolled steel sheets, plates and
strips (hereafter referred to as "steel sheets, plates and strips") to be used for welded
gas cylinders with a maximum capacity of 500 L which contain such high-pressure gases
as LP gas and acetylene.
2 Normative references
The following standards contain provisions which, through reference in this text,
constitute provisions of this Standard. The most recent editions of the standards
(including amendments) indicated below shall be applied.

5 Mechanical properties
The steel sheets, plates and strips shall be tested in accordance with 8.2, and t~eir
yield point or proofstress, tensile strength, elongation and bendability shall be as given
in table 3.
For the bendability, there shall be no crack on the outside of test piece for bend
test.
NOTE: See 8.2.1 for the test of the bendability.
Values are not applicable to the irregular portions on each end of steel strip.

G 3116: 2013
The measurement of thickness shall be made at any point not less than 20 mm from the side
edge.
Notes a) Values are not applicable to irregular portions on each end of steel strip.
b)
Tolerances on those whose width is 2 000 mm or more shall be upon the agreement
between the purchaser and the manufacturer. However, those whose thickness is under
3.15 mm shall be excluded.
7 Appearance
The appearance of steel sheets, plates and strips shall be as specified in clause 7
of JIS G 3193.
8 Tests
8.2.1 General
General requirements for mechanical test shall be as specified in clause 7 and
clause 9 of JIS G 0404. However, the sampling method shall be Class A in 7.6 of JIS
G 0404.
The bend test may be omitted 1), unless specificallydesignated by the purchaser.
Note 1) It means that although the test may be omitted accordingto the judge-
ment of the manufacturer, the bendability shall satisfy the requirements.

I 8.2.2 Number of test pieces for tensile test and bend test
One test piece shall be taken for each of the tensile test and the bend test from each
lot of the same heat rolled to the same thickness. However, when the mass of one lot
I exceeds 25 t, two test pieces shall be taken for each of the tests.
8.2.3 Sampling position and direction of test pieces for tensile test and bend
I test
The centre of test piece for tensile test and bend test shall be at a quarter-width
I from the side edge or at a position close to it. The test pieces shall be sampled paral-
lel to the rolling direction.
Test pieces
I
8.2.4
The test pieces for tensile test and bend test shall be as follows.
a) No.5 test piece specified in JIS Z 2241 shall be used for tensile test.
I, b) No.3 test piece specified in JIS Z 2248 shall be used for bend test.
I 9 Inspection
The inspection shall be as follows.
I a)
b)
General requirements for inspection shall be as specified in JIS G 0404.
The chemical composition shall comply with the requirements of clause 4.
,~ d)
e)
The shape, dimension and mass shall comply with the requirements of clause 6.
The appearance shall comply with the requirements
10 Re-inspection
of clause 7.
I For the steel sheets, plates and strips having failed to meet the requirements of
tensile test and bend te~t, a retest may be carried out for final acceptance as specified
in 9.8 of JIS G 0404.
I 11 Marking
I On each bundle of steel sheets, plates and strips that have passed the inspection,
the following items shall be marked by suitable means. However, for steel plates and
sheets which are not bundled, these items shall be marked on each sheet or plate.
