RESOURCES
Resources is the core of any organization. They include people, equipment, facilities and
other things used to plan, implement, and evaluate organization working. There are many
types of resources used by UBL. UBL I.T department contain more than 300 employees.
Each employee have their individual laptops of Lenovo IBM. Each desk contains DELL
PCs working on xp environment. Data base using oracle 9i, 10G. Oracle has been a major
presence in data base computing for many years. The oracle is RDBMS (Relational Data Base
Management System) produced and marketed by oracle corporation. A RDBMS in short is a
DBMS in which data is store in the form of tables and the relationship among the data is also
stored in the forms of tables. UBL I.T department puts essential information in the hands of end
user (branch staff) through oracle. Visual Basic .NET (VB.NET) is an object-oriented
computer programming language that is used to designed application in UBL I.T
department for use.UBL having IBM severs two in Karachi and one in Isalamabad UBL
uses following networks-
WANs-
WANs are used to connect LANs and other types of networks together in UBL, so that staff and
computers in one location can communicate with employee and computers in other locations of
UBL. Many WANs are built for one particular organization and are private. Others, built by
Internet service providers, provide connections from an organization's LAN to the Internet.
WANs are often built using leased lines. At each end of the leased line, a router connects to the
LAN on one side and a hub within the WAN on the other. Leased lines are very expensive.
Instead of using leased lines, WANs can also be built using less costly circuit switching or packet
switching methods. Network protocols including TCP/IP deliver transport and addressing
functions.
LANs-
A local area network (LAN) is a computer network that connects computers and devices with in
UBL buildings. The defining characteristics of LANs, in contrast to wide area networks (WANs),
include their usually higher data-transfer rates, smaller geographic area, and lack of a need for
leased telecommunication lines. LANs used cables to connect computers with each other with
star topology. Star Topology is the most common type of network topology that is used in UBL
offices. In the Star Topology there is a central connection point called the hub which is a
computer hub or sometimes just a switch. In a Star Network the best advantage is when there is a
failure in cable then only one computer might get affected and not the entire network.

virtual private network (VPN)-

A virtual private network (VPN) is a computer network that uses a public
telecommunication infrastructure such as the Internet to provide remote offices or
individual staff member with secure access to UBL through IBM servers. It encapsulates
data transfers between two or more networked devices which are not on the same private
network so as to keep the transferred data private from other devices on one or more wide
area networks. The private nature of a VPN means that the data travelling over the VPN is not
generally visible to all other than organization.
