7), (UK 7) Needles and MC.

essential for a successful handknit.

SPECIAL NOTES FOR KNITTING
BRINDABELLA MESH
We recommend that you do not pull the
yarn from the centre of the ball - unwind
it from the outside and it will be easier to
work with. To join this yarn, just overlap
the two yarns by about 10 cms/4 ins and
knit them both for 2 to 3 sts.
Casting On - Unfold the tape, you will see
3 coloured sections to the tape. Have the
colour that you would like to knit into at the
top. You will be poking the needle through
the mesh approximately 0.5 cms/½ in
away from the edge when casting on and
knitting. See the image showing correct
place to knit into, stars mark the space
where needle should be inserted.
To cast on, you simply insert the needle
into the mesh approximately 5 cms/2 ins
away from the end of your yarn to create
the first st. To create the next st, insert the
needle front to back into the mesh approx
5 cms/2 ins along the edge of the tape.
Rep this process to cast on each st.
Knitting - Insert your right needle into the
st as if to knit. Unfold the tape, keeping
the same coloured edge at the top. Cont
inserting your needle at the stated intervals
as your knitting and complete each st as
you would for a garter st.
Casting off - Knit 2 sts in the above
manner. Lift the first st over the second and
off the needle. Work in this way across the
sts until one remains. Using a yarn needle
thread the end of the tape though the last
st and tighten to cast/bind off.
CREATE
Back and Upper Sleeves
Using pair 4.50mm (US 7), (UK 7) Needles
and MC, cast on 104 (114) sts.
Work in stocking st until work measures
18 cms/7 ins from beg, ending with a purl
row.
Note - When sts become uncomfortable on
a pair of needles, we suggest changing to a
circular needle.
Cast on 47 sts at beg of next 2 rows for
upper sleeves = 198 (208) sts. **
Cont in stocking st until work measures 22
(24) cms/8½ (9) ins from beg of cast on
for upper sleeves, ending with a purl row.

Shape shoulders and top of sleeves -
Cast/bind off 74 (77) sts at beg of next 2
rows.
Cast/bind off rem 50 (54) sts loosely.
Front and Upper Sleeves
Work as for Back to **.
Cont in stocking st until work measures 11
(12) cms/4 (5) ins from beg of cast on for
upper sleeves, ending with a purl row.
Shape neck - Next row - K92 (96), cast/
bind off next 14 (16) sts loosely, knit to
end.
*** Cont on these 92 (96) sts and dec one
st at neck edge in every row until 76 (80)
sts rem, then in every foll alt row until 74
(77) sts rem.
Cont without shaping until work measures
same as Back to beg of shoulder shaping,
ending with a purl row.
Work 1 row.
Cast/bind off rem sts loosely for shoulder
and top of shoulder. ***
With WS facing, join yarn to rem sts.
Rep from *** to ***, working 1 row less
before cast/bound off for shoulder.
Lower Sleeve (make 2)
Using 4.50mm (US 7), (UK 7) Needles and
MC, cast on 34 (38) sts.
Work in stocking st, inc one st at each end
of 11th row, then in every foll 10th row
until there are 40 (44) sts.
Cont without shaping until work measures
18 cms/7 ins from beg, ending with a purl
row. Cast/bind off very loosely.
FINISHING
DO NOT PRESS. Using yarn needle, darn
in ends.
Using yarn needle and mattress st seam,
join shoulder and top of upper sleeves.
Work a gathering thread along side edge of
upper sleeves. Draw up to fit evenly along
cast/bound off edge of lower sleeves. Sew
lower sleeves to fit gathering of upper
sleeves. Join side and sleeves seams.
Frill Edge (make 2) - This tape yarn has
a special, yet simple method. Please read
through the special notes before you start
knitting.
Using 4.00mm (US 6), (UK 8) Needles and
CC, cast on 50 sts.
Knit 1 row, knitting into the mesh of one
coloured edge of the yarn, Cast/bind off.
Using yarn needle and a strand of MC, sew
the cast/bound off edge of one frill along
the cast on edge of the Back. Sew the
other frill onto the front panel cast on edge
in the same manner.
