Article 2 - Creating Rules
Consider:
The importance of rules
Strategies for writing effective rules
What factors help you to choose particular rules?
How can you have children involved in creating these rules?
You can simply tell the learners what the rules are – you have complete control in this case,
they are YOUR rules and it is your responsibility to enforce them. By letting them decide the
rules learners have a greater commitment to keeping them. This latter approach sounds good,
but it’s likely that the rules won’t meet your perceived needs: words like ‘silent’ and ‘respect’
and ‘on-time’ might be missing!
Better that Rules are agreed between teacher and learners, and best that they are established
‘up front’.
Rules should be simple (I recently attended a session where rules were no more than four
words each, and there were only six of them), thus easy to remember; they should be written
up in big letters on a classroom poster, and thus always to mind; and they should be written
down as the class discuss what they understand by each, and are thus ’embedded’ in each brain
as they are accepted by the group.
There’s no doubt that the clearer the rules and expectations are, the more likely students will
be to learn. Rules define the parameters of behaviour for students, so they know what’s
expected of them and also what behaviours are “Out of bounds.” When these rules are clearly
defined, students are more likely to understand and abide by them.
Whatever the extent students play a role in establishing the classroom rules and expectations,
make sure that you leave room for establishing policies for yourself as well. When teachers
invite input and feedback regarding their own manner of conduct, this helps students feel like
they have more ownership and control over their learning and additional helps teachers better
model how one abides by a set of expectations.

PART 2:
Task 4-A: My Effective Classroom Rules
From your teaching practice experience you will analyze, in a short report, how you
formulated appropriate classroom rules. Reflect on the effectiveness of these classroom
rules. Explain how you taught and implemented these rules in the classroom.
Paragraph 1
Give an introduction about classroom management – classroom rules
During TP I made some classroom rules for my lesson, I printed my rules and I stick it in the
classroom My rules were:
Paragraph 2
How did you teach and implemented these rules in the classroom.
According to Kyriacou the teacher needs to effectively regulate classroom activities and
teacher-pupil interaction.
At beginning of TP, I presented my rules on a poster and I told them the rules that I had one by
one and explained it for them, then I showed them some examples of how will they use these
rules and fro what. Also, I told the students that these rules will help them to be focus and love
each other and to know how they respect the others. I explained the rules and discussed with
the students to keep them know what they are doing and to know that these rules are important
in the classroom.

Paragraph 3
How did the rules help you to be effective? Why do teachers need rules
Teacher need rules because the rules will help the teacher to manage her class and the class
will be quite, so the teacher can manage on the students while she give them a lesson and she
will not face any problems and the students will understand the lesson quickly, even it help the
teacher to teach the students how to be organized inside the class and it will help the teacher to
have a control on the students. It helped me to listen to the students when they talk to express
themselves and this will improve their social skills as well as their English language even if
they had a spelling mistake I will help them to fix the mistake that in next time they will speak
in a good way.
