THE HUDSON VALLEY

ART in the Hudson Valley

Art and wine share a special kinship in the Hudson Valley. Art and architecture exist
side-by-side with beautiful vineyards and farms that have inspired artists for centuries –
with views that were made famous by painters of the Hudson River School, America’s
first and oldest art movement, founded in the mid-19th century.

WINE in the Hudson Valley

The Hudson Valley, the oldest grape growing and wine producing region in the U.S.
and one of the first designated American Viticultural Areas (AVA), is home to Brotherhood
Winery, America’s oldest, continuously-operated winery since 1839, and Benmarl Winery
the country’s oldest vineyard. Wines produced in the Hudson Valley have attained national
and international prominence, with award-winning wines made from classic European
varieties, regional hybrids and even local fruit. Today, there is a renewed, burgeoning
interest in the local wine industry in the Hudson Valley.
“ ...one of the few bright spots...the grape and wine industry is
New York State’s fastest segment of the agriculture and tourism
sectors, generating over $3.76 billion to the State’s economy each
year.” –NY Wine & Grape Foundation

ART AND WINE in the Hudson Valley

Once home to artists, inventors and gentleman farmers who shared a love of fine art
and fine wine, the Hudson Valley’s cultural sites now provide visitors an opportunity to
experience the region’s rich cultural past – and its connection to art and wine. Today,
cultural and winery tourism brings economic vitality to the Hudson Valley, with the opening
of world-class museums, galleries, and art and wine trails, drawing visitors from all
over the world.
