Break-out Title/Topic: Introduction to the Field of Psychology Resources (min)
Bridge-in:
1. How many of you have previously taken a psychology or a psychology related
course?
2. This activity is aimed to give you a bit of a preview of what’s to come in the
course, and the types of topics that will be covered.

Pre-Assessment:
1. What do you already know about the field of psychology?
2. Which area are you most interested in learning, and why?
3. What sorts of topics do you think will be covered in the course?

Learning Objective:
1. Become familiar with some of the common topics/areas of study in the field
of psychology
2. Gain a small understanding of what the course will cover over the semester,
and emphasize the importance of reading ahead

Participatory Activity:
1. The group will split into two groups, and each group will receive a package of
terms and definitions.
2. There will be more terms than definitions, and it’s up to the group members
to try and match them up correctly using only their combined knowledge
3. The team with the most amount of correctly matched items wins
4. Each time will get only one ‘life-line’ being either ask your mentor, Google it, Terms/Definition
or look it up in the textbook printed out prior
5. Repeat the activity at the end of the semester to see how they much they’ve Cell

Summary:
1. This was a small preview as to what you will be learning in 115
2. It is important to read the textbook and stay on top of your lesson as it can
become overbearing to try and learn a week before the midterm/exam 1
