• A fan shaped compression field exist.


• The shear is required to be checked at distance “d” from the face of support for calculation
for shear R/f calculation –Only applicable if there is no concentrated load within “d” from
support. -Cl 10.2.3 (note-1) of IRC:112
• Shear R/f calculated at distance “d” shall be extended till support.
• For checking Capacity of compression strut against crushing, net shear force acting at the
face of support shall be taken.
• Additional longitudinal tension R/f is required to cater the horizontal component of
compression strut (apart from bending requirement). -Cl 10.3.3.3 (6) of IRC:112
