UNIT/CHAPTER OBJECTIVE/GENERALIZATION/BIG IDEA:


● In this learning segment, TSW learn how to demonstrate commands of convention of standard English
grammar and usage when speaking and writing. This lesson builds their prior knowledge of sentence
composition and verb usage.

LESSON OBJECTIVE:
● By TSW be able to understand and comprehend the meaning of past tense and irregular verbs with 90%
accuracy.
● TSW be able to conjugate the tense of a verb with 100% accuracy.
● TSW be able to form a sentence with the proper usage of the past tense irregular verb with 85%
accuracy.

STANDARDS ADDRESSED:
● 1. FL.SC.6
● Demonstrate command of the convention of standard English grammar and usage when speaking and
conventions of standard English grammar and usage including capitalization and punctuation when
writing.
● (d) Form and use the past tense of frequently occurring irregular verbs.

BACKGROUND and RATIONALE:


● During this segment, TSW be able to form sentences using the past tense of irregular verbs.
● TSW know their vocabulary words: past tense and irregular verb
● I plan to build on this lesson by teaching a lesson on understanding of word relationships and nuances in word
meanings.

PROCEDURES AND TIMELINE:


● Introduction: (10 minutes) TTW ask the students if they know the definition of a past tense and
irregular verb. TTW then ask the students what they did before coming to school, what they did the day
before and the day prior. (5 minutes)
● TTW then will give each student 3 popsicles sticks with one past tense irregular verb on each popsicle
stick. TTW ask the students to write down 3 sentences using the past tense irregular verb from the
popsicle stick. TTW choose 3 students to present their sentences and then take up the popsicle sticks. (5
minute)

● Procedures: (50 minutes) TTW show the students a video on past tense irregular verbs so that they can
comprehend and have more understanding. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1nIuudykJss (5
minutes)
● TTW assign each student a laptop and allow them to play a past tense irregular verb game online. The
students should answer 15 of the questions correctly with the least number of attempts. (10 minutes)
● TTW walk around to observe and monitor the student’s progress.
● When the students are done with their assignment, they are to show the teacher that they have completed
all 15 questions and they will receive 3 index cards in return. (3 minutes)
● TSW then play a game called quiz, quiz trade. The students are to walk around the classroom and quiz
their peers with an index card that has an irregular verb on side of it. One student will choose an index
card that they were given and say the irregular verb. The peer that is being quizzed must say the past
tense of that irregular verb, write it on the other side of the index card as well as their name. The peer
that was quizzed first must then do the same for the first student. TSW then trade index cards and move
on to the next classmate. The students may only use each index card once and may only quiz the same
classmate once. (15 minutes)
● TSW then go back to their seats and TTW write on the board a short paragraph with some fill in the
blanks, a word bank and the website that the students will go to, to complete their next assignment. (3
minutes)
● TSW write down the paragraph and fill in the blanks of the paragraph with the correct past tense irregular verb. (5
minutes)
● With the paragraph the students completed, TSW will use their computers and go to https://vocaroo.com/ to create
a voice capture. In the voice capture, the students will introduce themselves and then verbally present the
paragraph they have wrote. (7 minutes)
● As each student finishes their assignment, TTW email the link to the audio recording to him/herself. (2 minutes)
● Closure: (10 minutes) TSW be given a handout to complete. TSW will change the verb to its past tense
and create a sentence with that word. When the students are finished with their work they will turn it in
to the teacher.

ASSESSMENT EVIDENCE:
● For the formative assessment, TSW receive 3 popsicle sticks with 3 different past tense irregular verbs
and TSW create a sentence with each word.
● For the summative assessment, TSW complete a handout forming sentences with the past tense of an
irregular verb.
