LIGHT STUDY GUIDE
Use this and your notes to help
you study for your test.Converging Lens
People who are NEARSIGHTED People who are FARSIGHTED have
have DIVERGING lenses on their CONVERGING lenses on their
glasses. glasses.
‘These lenses are CONCAVE ‘These lenses are CONVEX
Light is a form of energy that travels in a STRAIGHT path in waves and reflects
or refracts; it also can give off heat energy
Light energy is made up of different wavelengths. These wavelengths are
called the ELECTROMAGNETIC SPECTRUM
Transparent = ALL light through
Translucent = SOME light through
Opaque = No light through
Visible wh
ight is made up of the “RAINBOW” colors (ROY G. BIV)
Black = absence of light
White = combination of all colors of light
Refraction = When light bends
Reflection = When light bouncesLight waves travel FASTER than sound waves
PRIMARY COLORS OF LIGHT S{GESSnRRGE!
Bioluminescene= When an animal makes its own light(Like, a FIRE FLY
You see differences in COLORS when your eyes and brain respond to different
wavelengths of light.
MICROSCOPE = used to magnify
TELESCOPE = used to see things far away
Cones = Receptor cells that detect COLOR and DETAIL
Rods = Receptor cells that detect BLACK and WHITE
When you look at an image it is UPSIDE DOWN on your RETINA
HOW WE SEE
1) Light REFLECTS off an object
2) Light passes through the CORNEA
3) Light reaches the lens
4) The lens changes shape and makes an upside down image on the
retina in each eye.
5) The cones and rods make chemicals.
6) The chemicals make electrical signals that can be carried by nerve
cells.
7) The optic nerve carries the message to the brain.
8) The brain turns the image right side up and interprets the message
from the eves.
