DESCRIPTION:
The bulletin provides general key cutting information for Accent and Elantra vehicles.
GENERAL KEY CUTTING INFORMATION:
Accent vehicles have key codes that start with V, such as V1234. The V is imprinted on
the key tag delivered with the vehicle and is also listed in the electronic files.
Elantra vehicles have key codes that start with M on the key tag delivered with the
vehicle, and T in the electronic information. Most key cutting equipment vendors use M
for Elantra key codes (such as M1023).
Cut keys according to the equipment vendors recommended processes. The
procedures below are specific to a few of the commonly available key cutting machines.
Consult your key cutting equipment supplier for the specific instructions for your key
machine.
The newer key blanks are made with a reduced lead alloy brass. This makes them
harder to cut. Many hand key cutters will not cut the harder keys. In some cases, the
key blank may need to be cut twice to fully remove all of the material. If the key is hard
to turn, recut the key blank a second time to verify it is fully cut.
