6 Stud 5 2 7 8 3 8 10 7 8
7 Sum
8 Sum/5
9 Average
10 St dev

Use formulas to find the Sum, Average, and Standard deviation of all the tests.

Using formula and functions:

SUM: Cursor is in B7. Then use function to get sum of Test scores in cells B2, B3, B4,
and B6. Repeat the process for Test 2 through 6B.
SUM/5: Use "=B7/5" and the do the "same thing" you did to fill in cells for row 7.
AVERAGE: Computer can do "sum/5" by using the average function.
ST DEV: Use the standard deviation function to compute the standard deviation for each
Test.

Also compute the following:

Count the number of students, who are above average for a particular test.
Extrapolate the marks out of 25.
Do the similar exercise on the basis of students.

2. The company produces an assortment of cardboard boxes, which are sold in units of
50. The company's manager, Peter, is required to prepare a company budget, which
outlines spending and profits over the following two years. He needs to prepare a
budget for 1995 and 1996. The company must pay tax on its profits, which is cost of
sales less overheads.
In order to make predictions his past research suggests that sales during 1995-6 will grow
by 10% each year whilst overhead costs will rise by 5% per year. These figures may need
to be changed in the future due to market forces.
On your worksheet describe what will happen to profits if sales grow by 8% and
overheads increase by 10%.

The Data:
1994 figures
10,000 units were sold at an average price of $75 per unit.
Overheads $90,000

Company Tax 50% of profits

3. Create a hypothetical 10th grade history class that contains the following data (put the
last name in the first column and the first name in the second column):

Name ID Grade1 Grade2 Grade3 Grade4 Total Grade Average

Prasad 569765 45 32 67 81

Average

Sort students by name (column 1) in ascending order.

Bold face the titles (Name, ID, etc.) and function averages.
Center all text data.
Paste the appropriate function to calculate both student and class averages.
Configure the resulting averages to be a fixed number with one decimal place.
Fill the student averages and totals down.
Sort students in descending order by their individual averages.
Create a chart that adequately displays class performance on each of the four assignments.

4. Refer to following table:

Name ID Number Name ID Number
Jones 33467 Hay 79584
Osborne 68945 Thompson 13426
Carrie 89573 Baxter 44689
Smart 50890 Gregg 31212
Allen 19876 Brett 99999

Enter the student’s name and their ID in the columns.

Sort the fields by ID Number
Enter the student scores

There were 50 questions on the mammals test. Gregg answered 36 questions correctly.
Enter 36 for Gregg's score. Create scores for the rest of the students. Remember the
highest possible score is 50.

There were 25 questions on the cell biology test. Gregg answered 23 questions correctly.
Enter 23 for Gregg's score. Continue through the list of students creating scores for each
of the remaining nine students. Remember the highest possible score is 25.

There were 30 questions on the test covering reptiles. Gregg was ill the week prior to the
Reptiles test but he insisted on taking the test anyway and managed a score of only 6.
Enter 6 for Gregg. Create scores for the rest of the students. Remember the highest
possible score is 30.

Calculate the average and standard deviation of scores.

Calculate percentages based on total points (upto two decimal places)

Enter the student grades.
Percentage Grade
80% or above A
50%-79% B
49% or below C

Find the minimum, maximum, and average recorded for each course.
5. Mr. Shyam has to invest Rs. 5000/- in the fixed deposit scheme. The annual interest
rates (compounded annually) for different investment periods are as follows:

Scheme No. of years Interest rate

A 3 7.5%
B 4 8.0%
C 5 8.5%
D 6 9.0%
E 7 or above 9.5%

Prepare the spreadsheet to calculate the interest and amount at the end of each period.
Also find the yearly interest and amount after the end of each year in each scheme.
What should be the interest rate of scheme B, if Mr. Shyam wants Rs. 6200/- at the end of
4 years?
Prepare a table for scheme 3, if the interest rate varies from 7.5% to 8.5% with an
increment of 0.1%.

6. Lily Company sells two products X and Y. The Company has two production
departments, designated Department A and Department B. In both departments, work
is done on both Product X and Product Y.
The cost accountant for Lily Company has developed the following standard cost
information for the two products and the two departments:
Product X Product Y
In Department A
Direct materials 5 Kg. @ Rs. 2.50 18 Kg. @ Rs. 2.50
Direct labor 3 hours @ Rs. 24.00 2 hours @ Rs. 24.00
Variable manufacturing overhead Rs. 35.00 per unit Rs. 30.00 per unit
Fixed manufacturing overhead Rs 300,000 per year in total for Department A
In Department B
Direct materials 2 Kg. @ Rs. 20.00 1 Kg. @ Rs. 20.00
Direct labor 2 hours @ Rs. 30.00 1 hour @ Rs. 30.00
Variable manufacturing overhead Rs. 53.00 per unit Rs. 40.00 per unit
Fixed manufacturing overhead Rs 700,000 per year in total for Department B
For the year 2000, Lily Company expects to produce 1,000 units of Product X and 2,000
units of Product Y. This level of production is approximately the same as the level of
production in each of the past three years. The accounting staff for Lily Company have
constructed a spreadsheet that will compute the standard cost per unit for Product X and
for Product Y. Lily Company allocates fixed overhead to products based on the number
of direct labor hours.
Calculate the cost per unit of Product X and Product Y for different production levels
(from 500 units to 3000 units at the interval of 500 units).
7. This problem is related to chart preparation. Consider different class with class
interval and class frequency as obtained by 100 students in an examination.

3 40-59 29
4 60-79 24
5 80-99 11
Using Excel sheet, fill up the remaining columns and try to prepare relevant charts.

8. This problem is for the preparation of Bill of Materials. Consider the following table,
which describes the requirement of end-product’s A, B, C, D, and E in terms of basic
ingredients P, Q, R, S, T, U, V, W, X, Y, and Z.

A B C D E
P 1 2 2
Q 2 3 2
R 3 2 5 1
S 1 3 1 4
T 2 1
U 4 2 1
V 1 3
X 2 4 5 1 2
Y 2
Z 2 3 1 1 4

The next period requirement of different end-product is A: 100 units, B: 50 units, C: 150
units, D: 100 units, and E: 50 units. Prepare the Bill of Material through Excel. Model the
problem such that it can be used for later periods also with different requirements.
9. This problem is to analyze the break-even point for a product X. The table describes
the various cost factors and the sales price.

Sales price 100

Variable cost
Material cost 35
Labour cost 20
Fuel, Electricity 10
Sales cost 5
Fixed cost
Shop floor overhead 10000 per period
Administrative cost 5000 per period
Sales overhead 5000 per period
Through the help of Excel, model the problem and find the profit at different sales level
and try to find out the break-even point.
10. Consider a facility location problem, which have to distribute three basic commodities
material to three different locations. The details are as given below:

Vol. of goods Co-ordinates Weighted.

Commodity (in tons) X Y Distance Distance
A 10000 25 50
