Question 1

I agree with the statement that the internet gives a lot of problems for users. Internet has been
widely used and increasingly intractable. Internet has become the medium to do things that are
not beneficial.

Firstly, the internet has led young people exposed to the negative elements that are detrimental to
them. With a wide range of applications in the internet, the teenagers will download things that
are not supposed to be accessed. They will be less focused in their learning. Is this not going to
hurt them? They will fail in their studies and their future will be affected. Online games can be
additive to children, young adults and even adults (Patrick. 2012).

Secondly, the internet is being misused to commit fraud. A variety of internet fraud is done in
fraudulent money cases. In Facebook, for example, the foreigners especially Nigerians will
deceive women in Facebook to get the money. They will sow sweet verses that could melt a
woman’s heart. After that, they will ask for money from women for some reasons.

Thirdly, the internet makes students lazy to find information or facts from books or do research.
Given Google application that is easy to get information, students will take the rights of authors
in their work or studies. This would be classified as plagiarizing the work of others. In addition,
the internet has been used by some people to track someone or something in committing a crime.
For example, advanced internet system is used to kidnap wealthy businessman. A sophisticated
detection system without knowing the predators has resulted in the kidnapping and theft mishaps.

The occurrence of the negative influenceto the teenagers ismainly caused by the negligence of
parents. The parents have pampeedtheir children to the extent that give the advanced gadgetsto
them so willingly. Unfortunately, children are not monitoredby their parents and as a result, they
will misuse such gadgets to browse the internet for activities that are not beneficial to them. The
parents should give appropriate guidance so that children are not obsessed to the internet usage.

Moreover, the influence from friends will tempt us to browse the internet more eagerly and the
destructive one is the online gambling.Without much awareness, we will want to give a try when
seeingfriends have gained victory in gambling. Eventually, we will become addicted and may
have suffered a loss hugely. Also, our work performance may be affected badly and our health
will deteriorate if do not take care well. The greedy attitude in a person on money and
possessions will mislead them to fall into the trap trying to fool others via internet by selling
items that are not validated.

In conclusion, the internet is certainly a disastrous medium causing a lot of problems if it is not
used wisely or properly. The internet users need to be alert and do not disclose personal
information on the internet without checking. All internet users are encouraged to browse the
applications in the internet wisely for good and healthy activities.

Question 2

Many students have a desire to study abroad in the universities around the world. Some
acknowledge that studying abroad is a remarkable achievement, especially if in the high-ranking
universities. However, there are pros and cons that will be encountered by students if choose to
study abroad.

The first benefit to study abroad will be gaining a wonderful experience to see other countries.
Students will have the opportunity to get to know the culture and way of life of the occupied
country. For example, if the chosen education is located in London, then it implies that the
student will be exposed to an environment that is available in London. Students will learn about
their language, lifestyle and food in London. To understand more about their culture, the
students will travel to the interesting places while living and studying there. According to
Elizabeth Dalferes, ‘a master’s degree at a foreign institution to gain a unique culture experience
while acquiring new skills’ (Top Universities Website).

The second benefit is the advancement. In some countries, students can learn the kindness and
strong expertise which can bring impact to their life now and in future. For example, if a student
is studying in Japan, students will get to know how the Japanese work and what allows them to
advance in their careers. Japan is very famous for the advanced and dedicated students to learn
the technology. It will be a high loss if students fail to learn their expertise, especially in the
technical field. Available expertise should be learnt and brought back to our country after the
graduation.

However, there are also disadvantages when studying abroad. The first disadvantage is difficult
for students to adapt to living well in foreign countries. Students are forced to learn in a new
place with different learning systems, new atmosphere and using another language. If the
students cannot cope well with the system, they will fall back and are unable to gain good grades
in the study.

The second disadvantage is that students will experience culture shock. Different life outside the
country can be a great negative impact on students. Students may be affected by adverse foreign
culture as like partying and drinking alcohol in conflict with the norms of the Malay community
in Malaysia.
The third disadvantage is that students being forced away from their families. Students will
rarely meet with their family and cannot go back for celebration due to expensive air-tickets or
have examination to sit for. Students will miss the family and if continues, the academic
performance of students will be affected indirectly.

Indeed, studying abroad is an opportunity that should not be wasted by everyone. Everything
must have pros and cons. We have to deal with the situation wisely. We must constantly
strengthen our faith to deal with elements that are disadvantageous to us when inoverseas. Every
chance we have to study abroad is a lifetime experience and thus, should experience the study
life fruitfully for future advancement.

Question 4

The uncontrollable development causing environmental pollution is very rampant nowadays.

Environmental pollution has a negative impact on our health indirectly. We suffer from a variety
of diseases caused by the greed of man does pollution for the sake of mere money without taking
conservation measures.

The first step is to reduce the use of chemicals. Chemicals will cause pollution to the
environment in addition to an effect in the long run to the environment. The use of pesticides and
air conditioning in everyday life is one of the good examples. As a result of the use of these
substances, the ozone layer depletion and groundwater by kluroflurokarbon (CFC) will occur and
is harmful to humans. The economy will also be affected due to this high expenditure on health
separately. People need to refer to the proper authority in the use of chemicals in farming and
industry, especially to avoid environmental contamination.

The second step is the government should enforce laws concerning environmental hygiene. The
manufacturing industry in generalshould follow the hygiene standards set by the government
through the Department of Environmental and Occupational Safety and Health. Penalties will be
imposed to the manufacturers who fail to follow the prescribed level of cleanliness. With the
enforcement, the cleanliness of the environment will always be maintained and the manufacturer
will not arbitrarily pollute the environment. If no law is implied, the toxic waste that is produced
by the mills will cause environmental pollution and wildlife in the water will die. Dirty water
flowing in the river will cause a shortage of clean water to the community for the long term.

The third step is to increase awareness on environmental protection. Waste materials can be
reprocessed for use again and we can classify materials that are not necessary to the recycling
bins. For example, waste can be processed into fertilizer nutrients to avoid wastage and
newspapers can also be used as tissue. There are some ISO standards related to recycling such as
ISO 15270:2008 for plastics waste and ISO 14001:2004 for environmental management control
of recycling practice. (Wikipedia)

The fourth step is to conduct continuous civic awareness campaign so that people can take care
of the environment since childhood. Through this awareness campaign, people are urged to keep
the environment clean with various programs such as tree planting campaign. Children will learn
the importance of trees to the environment and take care of the environment after a civic
consciousness is nurtured to them. In such a way, environmental hygiene quality will always be
high and maintained.

In conclusion, more practicable steps is required to protect the environment so that the
environment pollution can be reduced. A clean environment is important to the national general
health and will boost the country’s economy by attracting tourists traveling in our country. With
the reduction of environmental pollution, people will be able to live in a clean environment and
stay in good health.

Question 5

Global warming is a phenomenon known as entrainment greenhouse gases which prevents gas
collection and trapping the earth's heat from escaping into space. The largest human influence
has been emission of greenhouse gases such as carbon dioxide, methane and nitrous oxide;
human activities have led to carbon dioxide concentrations above levels not seen in hundreds of
thousands of years (Wikipedia). The world now faces the problem of global warming very
seriously and if left unchecked will cause unstoppable harm to all parties.

There are various causes of global warming and the first cause is due to the industrial activities.
Burning fossil fuels such as coal and gas to operate the machines and equipment will release a lot
of greenhouse gases, especially carbon dioxide. The more carbon dioxide is released, the more
heat is trapped by a layer of gas and as a result, will be increasing the global temperatures
(Wikipedia).

The second cause is the transport activities. Motor vehicles are currently the main transport for
the people to facilitate their movement on this earth. The vehicles that use oil as a primary fuel
especially the unleaded type is releasing plenty of carbon dioxide and monoxide gas.

The third cause is the burning activity. Forest burning to clear forests for agricultural activities,
settlements or other purposes has contributed to the global warming. Forest fires have caused
tonnes of carbon dioxide is released.

In view of the negative impact towards our environment due to the global warming, appropriate
measures must be taken by governments and individuals in addressing this problem. On behalf of
the government, the first step is to create a green technology. The government needs to
restructure and extend the functionality of several ministries. With the establishment of the
Ministry of Energy, Green Technology and Water, human activities on the environment can be
constantly monitored.

The second step is the action from the government through law enforcement. The government
must be more proactive and effective in the implementation of the law. For example, the
government requires the motor vehicles to have vehicle exhaust gas filter so that cleaner gas
emitted from the vehicle exhausts, especially in the urban areas that we want to keep safer and
environmentally friendlier as more vehicles in this area. Enforcement of laws against the
production or release of licenses for logging purposes must be reduced to ensure the loggers do
not misuse the permit acquired for their own selfish sake.

The third step is to provide education to love our environment from young age. In such a way,
the younger generation will be able to know the importance of protecting the
environment.Through exposure on the issue of global warming while they are young, they might
have ideas to contribute to the society of what they need to do as environmental responsibility
belonged to everyone.

In conclusion, global warming is not occurring naturally. All parties need to work together in
addressing this issue in order not to affect humans and all life on this earth.

Question 7

As of today, smoking is becoming a trend. We can see people smoking everywhere shamelessly
and even feel very proud. However, there are some countries have adopted a ban on smoking in
public areas. Good example is our neigbouring country, Singapore. Sometime in 1970s,
Singapore has banned smoking in buses and extended to other common areas. They are very
strict on this enforcement. In my opinion, this can also be practiced in Malaysia.

The ban on smoking in the shopping centers is very good. Normally, the crowds in the mall
comprise parents, teens and children. Some of them may have health issues or diseases that we
do not know because they are not our family members. Imagine if we smoke in the center, others
will be inhaling cigarette smoke coming from us. The smoke is trapped inside the air-conditioned
mall. Everyone is breathing in the smoke which clearly is harmful to everyone. Children who
are exposed to the smoke will suffer from a higher health risk such as cough, asthma and lung
infections. Those who are healthy initially will have health problem eventually due to the smoke.
Therefore, a ban on smoking is a necessary step to care for everyone’s health.

Besides in the shopping mall, other places that are crowded with people should be imposed too
for the sake of everyone’s health. Only the designated places can be allowed to smoke.
Additional rationales for smoking restrictions include reduced risk of fire in areas with explosive
hazards; cleanliness in places where food, pharmaceuticals, semiconductors, or precision
instruments and machinery are produced; decreased legal liability; potentially reduced energy
use via decreased ventilation needs; reduced quantities of litter; healthier environments; and
giving smokers incentive to quit. (Wikipedia)

With the practice on the ban of smoking in the public places, Malaysia will be seen as a country
that emphasizes the health of residents and the tourists as well. People will breathe in clean air
and be more comfortable during their daily activities in the public areas. In achieving this goal,
the government, through the Ministry of Health should work out the strategy and take necessary
measures. Measures such as a ban on smoking in public places should be published in various
forms of communication, such as, through social networking sites, television and newspapers.
With the effective communication, people will obtain the information and have awareness to
give co-operation. Penalty of maximum fine up to RM5,000 or jail if found smoking in the
public placesthat have been banned from smoking. The authorities need to constantly patrol and
monitor the public areas to ensure that no violation of the law occurs.

In conclusion, smoking is harmful to health, including people who do not smoke. Smoking does
not benefit us but only hurt ourselves if choose to be a smoker.Everyone has the responsibility to
comply with the ban on smoking regulation imposed on certain public areas for the health of
everyone. Hopefully, the smoker group will reduce and healthier society is happening in
Malaysia.
