Competency 001
I was invited to participate in the
development and delivery of
professional development specifically
designed to shape and maintain a
culture of high expectations and a
vision of academic success for every
student in the school. This professional
development was designed in stages to
be implemented throughout the year in
order to establish the desired culture
and maintain it as the year went by.
Competency 002
This competency was addressed when I
planned and organized the Fall Festival.
Many different groups of people were
involved in the organization, including
students, parents, teachers,
administrators, vendors, and other
stakeholders in the school. I was able
to get everyone working together in
order to have a very fun and successful
festival for our students and school.
Competency 003
This competency was addressed when
dealing with students, teachers, and
parents throughout the year. I have
been consistently faced with issues that
require integrity and a high moral
standard. This competency is
What did I learn?
I learned the importance of starting
early with culture-building, being
consistent, and predicting the areas
of likely resistance in order to have
a response and remedy ready before
the issue even had time to manifest
itself. I also learned that these
predictions were the same one’s
year after year and the culture
challenges in a school are relatively
easy to overcome when addressed
from the first day.
I learned that advanced planning is
key. I wish I had started earlier
with gathering ideas for booths,
getting more vendors to donate
items by having the tax exemption
certificates that they need on hand
when contacting them. I also wish
I had utilized the parent volunteers
more effectively but when I was
doing the original planning, I did
not know how to assign tasks yet.
I learned that doing the right thing
is always the right thing to do, no
matter how difficult it may or may
not be. It has been my life
experience that acting with integrity
and high moral standards will

My goal is to continue

methodologies in the

This competency was addressed in the
multiple trainings I attended this year in
the Connect program, where we
actually wrote the curriculum for our
subjects, along with the district
specialists in each subject area. These
trainings and curriculum writing days
were carefully aligned to the TEKS and
were an opportunity to use our
creativity inside the platform to give
students an opportunity to not only
learn but also enjoy the learning
process.

This competency was addressed as I
was asked to learn, master and teach
other teachers about the culture of a
growth mind-set. It was part of the
extensive training that we had to go
through in order to introduce the
Summit Learning Platform and the
Connect 1:1 technology that I and my
partner teacher piloted this year. The
culture of the school was impacted by
what I learned and what I was able to
share and convey to my fellow teachers
and students.

This competency was addressed by
attending monthly site-based decision-
making meetings and listening to and
contributing to the discussions
involving problem-solving, decision-
making, and ensuring an effective
learning environment. Various things
were discussed at each month’s
meetings and minutes were kept on all
issues discussed. I was able to
participate to some extent but mostly
observed and learned.
Competency 008
This competency was addressed in
many ways during this internship. I
assisted in activities necessary to
secure the grant for our new 1:1
technology that I also am piloting this
year. I have had high access to the
resource utilization of this program,
as it is stationed in my classroom and
utilized by me and my students every
day. I have witnessed the campus
budgeting process in sitting in on

who were struggling in areas get
the help they needed and learn
strategies and techniques to
improve in areas where they
were struggling in before. It was
encouraging and made the
evaluation process seem less
ominous and more authentically
helpful.

of trying to assist in a different
area. I also learned that an
effective learning environment has
a lot to do with safety and how this
issue is discussed and prioritized at
every meeting.

transform the way students
perceive learning. I also learned
how Title 1 funds must be used
and their exclusive uses. I was
able to sit in on many meetings
where resource allocation was
discussed and how those
allocations were different from
previous ones and what the
reasons were for the changes. I

As an accountant, I have had
a unique insight into the
budgeting discussions I
have been privy to this year,
but I plan on continuing to
learn more about the
specific educational
budgeting processes, as they
are very different than
traditional accounting, with
all of the funds and coding.

learned that district funds are
immediately available for certain
security issues, including motion
detectors and cameras for outdoor
portable buildings that did not
previously have security features
built into the campus budget.
My goal in this competency is
to continue to advocate for
safer outdoor facilities for
students. These students are
in the most vulnerable of all
situations in schools and this
issue is rarely discussed. My
goals are to either have all
students brought inside of the
main building or to have
security features equivalent to
those inside the main campus
also in place in all outdoor
facilities where students have
classes.
