Activity 1. The purpose of this activity is to introduce the Solar System to


the students with the incorporation of games and technology.
As the students learn about the solar system, they will be
playing games and answering questions on the Smart Board to
make learning more fun and easier to comprehend.
2. The teacher will begin by introducing the new unit the class
will be learning, which is the patterns of day and night,
seasonal changes, the different planets, and the phases of the
moon.
3. The teacher will continue by clicking on the link:
http://exchange.smarttech.com/details.html?id=3d07c2d1-
0f85-48ce-af15-71a14e19c1dd to open the PowerPoint
introducing the Solar System.
4. Begin the PowerPoint; the first slide introduces Astronaut
Annie, who will be taking the students on a virtual tour of the
solar system.
5. Continue through slides 3-9 to learn more about the
components that make up the solar system. Some of the
information that will be covered includes the Sun, the Moon
and the phases of the Moon, the Earth, and the eight Planets.
a. Follow the directions on each slide to uncover
additional hints and information about the Sun, the
Moon, and the Planets.
6. On slide 10, play the game as a class to test the knowledge
student's knowledge of the solar system.
a. Have the students come up to the Smart Board to spin
the wheel and answer the questions.
7. Once you get to slide 11, break the students into three groups.
Assign each group with one of the discussion questions. Once

the groups have each answered the questions, have one student
from each group to share their findings with the class. Allow
time for the students to ask questions and discuss each of the
group's answers.
