Discharge temperature
Td after compression can be
calculated by the following 2

Theoretical discharge temperature, oF

methods:

a. By equation:

Compression ratio, r
Td = Ts x r(k-l)/k

where: Td = discharge temperature, oR

Ts = suction temperature, oR.
r = compression ratio
k = ratio of specific heats Suction Temperature, oF

or

b. From Fig. 4-6.

Estimating compressor HP
• Use this equation for a quick but reasonable estimate of compressor HP:
BHP = (22 BHP) (ratio/stage) (no. of stages) (MMSCF/D) (F)

where:
MMSCF/D = compressor capacity referred to 14.4 psia and Ts
F = an allowance for interstage pressure drop
F = 1.0 for single stage compression
F = 1.08 for two-stage compression
F = 1.10 for three-stage compression

• This equation provides a close estimate of HP requirements for gases with gas gg = 0.65
and r > 2.5
• For gases with gg = 0.8 – 1.0, the multiplication factor will be about 20
• For r = 1.5 – 2.0, the factor may be as low as 16 – 18
• When using low ratios and/or for high gg , the estimated HP tend to be on the high side
• Fig. 4-4 gives an estimation of approximate BHP requirement
