Is Technology Beneficial to Society?

Technology is everywhere around in your everyday life whether you realize it or not. In

the year of 2018 technology is very beneficial in our lives. Technology has made what people

thought was impossible in the past, a reality today. Although some may argue that technology is

detrimental to society, technology can actually be beneficial to society because it can make life

easier, save lives and is extremely convenient.

Technology can make a numerous amount of things easier then what they would have

been in the past. Technology has made things simpler for society and has improved many things

such as communication, tools, machines, business and even education. According to

justscience.com, “Technology has made communication extremely easy allowing people in

different parts of the world to communicate through phone calls, text, email, or video calls

among other ways.”(justscience). Technology has also improved education substantially making

it easy for teachers to show examples, videos, play educational games or just simply making

powerpoints for students to take notes on. Technological advances have even improved

household chores. Without technology we would still be washing our clothes and dishes by hand,

we wouldn’t be able to refrigerate food, or we would have to work twice as hard just to cook

it.“The data collected over the time by space crafts and other instruments, can be processed by

the machines, to yield the final result.

Technology has taken over various roles in life where it assists us in day-to-day

chores.”(justscience).

Technological advances in the medical field has helped save several lives.Technology

can help save lives by advancing medical equipment, making surgeries safer and recovery time

quicker as well as reducing mortality. According to Esmail, Nadeem, and Dominika Wrona,

“Due to innovation in surgical technologies, surgeons are now able to use specialized

instruments to reduce the impact of treatment on patients( Esmail, Nadeem, and Dominika

Wrona).”Technology has allowed medical equipment to be safer reducing the amount of time

patients have to stay in the hospital and increasing their chance of survival.Technology also

allows doctors to learn more about the patient’s disease without having to perform surgery on the

patients with machines such as x rays and scanners. “They also provide less invasive procedures

for the diagnosis of disease, which can facilitate earlier and more localized treatment. Doctors

can use more sophisticated scanners to observe and learn more about the body's functions and

location of disease without subjecting the patient to surgery for either diagnosis or needless

interventions(Esmail, Nadeem, and Dominika Wrona).”

Technology is also extremely convenient and can be found almost everywhere you go.

Smart Phones have made it possible to find all kinds of information anywhere at the click of a

button. According to Chris Spain,“By connecting through mobile devices and through

advancements from the Internet of Things, everyday tasks are now easier to complete and the

access to information is in real-time(spain).” These days anything can be done online. From

shopping, reading and entertainment. It’s not even necessary to walk into a library and open a

book anymore, all the information that is needed could easily be found online. According to

Arnaud Gilbert, “We can read books, articles, and informational pieces online without the hassle

of going to a bookstore and browse through the shelves. All we have to do is type the name of

the book in the search engine bar and we are good to go. Thanks to the Internet or modern

technology(Gilbert).”

Others may argue that people are too dependent on technology and that technology is

harmful to society. Technology doesn’t allow people to think to their full capacity since people

can have the answer to any question they might have in an instance. According to Nick Ismail,

“The evolution of modern technology has disadvantages, for example, dependence on new

technology. Man no longer needs to think(ismail)”. Not only does technology make society lazy,

but it can also take jobs away from people.“Finally, as most technological discoveries aim to

reduce human effort, it would imply that more work is done by machines. This equates to less

work for people: the human is becoming ever so obsolete by the day, as processes become

automated and jobs are made redundant.”(ismail).

Technology is beneficial to society because it makes our everyday lives less complicated.

It has greatly improved the medical field and is very convenient among having many other

benefits. Although others might think that technology can harm society, the benefits outweigh

the harm it does. Without technology in our lives we would still be struggling to do everyday

tasks. We would also have a higher death rate and it would be difficult to research or to

communicate with others.
