MICRO-PROCESSORS IN

ROBOTICS
PRESENTED BY:

WHAT IS ROBOTICS?
Robotics is the branch of technology that deals with the
design, construction, operation, structural disposition,
manufacture and application of robots and computer systems
for their control, sensory feedback, and information
processing. With time the branch of robotics is emerging very
rapidly in not only in western countries but in India also.

TYPES OF MICROPROCESSOR USED IN ROBOTS
➤ Mostly people use micro-controllers for small robots since
they have a inbuilt memory and ADC which makes for more
compact and faster design iterations.
Some of the examples are  Arduino, PIC, Atmel AVR, 8051 etc
➤ On the other hand for big size robots like the one which are
working in the industries. They are a combination of
microprocessors and real time operating system. Which
makes them almost like a computer, coded in python or java
mostly with custom version of linux.
BRIEF DETAILS ABOUT THE USED MICROPROCESSORS
➤ Arduino - Arduino is an open source computer hardware and
software company, project, and user community that designs
and manufactures single-board
microcontrollers and microcontroller kits for building digital
devices and interactive objects that can sense and control
objects in the physical and digital world.

➤ PIC- PIC (usually pronounced as "pick") is a family
of microcontrollers made by Microchip Technology, derived
from the PIC1650 originally developed by General
Instrument's Microelectronics Division. The name PIC
initially referred to Peripheral Interface Controller,[4] then it
was corrected as Programmable Intelligent Computer.[5] The
first parts of the family were available in 1976; by 2013 the
company had shipped more than twelve billion individual
parts, used in a wide variety of embedded systems.
➤ AtmelAVR - AVR is a family of microcontrollers developed
by Atmel beginning in 1996. These are modified Harvard
architecture 8-bit RISC single-chip micro controllers. AVR
was one of the first micro-controller families to use on-
chip flash memory for program storage, as opposed to one-
time programmable ROM, EPROM, or EEPROM used by
other micro-controllers at the time.
➤ 8051 - Technically called as Intel MCS-51 Architecture, the
8051 micro-controller series was developed by Intel in the year
1980 and were very popular in the 80’s (still are popular).
➤ 8051 Micro-controller has many features like Serial
Communication, Timers, Interrupts, etc. and hence many students
and beginners start their work on the concept of Micro-controllers
with 8051 Micro-controller (although this trend seems to be
changed with the introduction of Arduino).
➤ Even though 8051 Micro-controller might seem a little bit out of
fashion, we feel that it is one of the best platforms to get started
with Micro-controllers, Embedded Systems and Programming
(both C and Assembly).
FUTURE OF ROBOTICS IN INDIA
➤ India needs a large number of robotistic people which will
help us in creating many new industries of robots. As humans
are getting more and more dependent on machines, this is the
time when there is a crying need for robots in India. Robots
are the future of India. Robotics are wheels through which
mankind will move forward in its endeavours and ensure its
superiority in the fight against any disaster, epidemic or an
untoward situation, come what may!
