Council for Exceptional Children (CEC) is professional organization of educators

(Council for Exceptional Children, 2018). The target of CEC is to provide effective ways that

assist children who have disabilities to be successful (Council for Exceptional Children, 2018).

They achieve their goals through standards, advocacy, and professional development (Council

for Exceptional Children, 2018). One of their most important activities is publication journals

such as Teaching Exceptional Children and Exceptional Children (Council for Exceptional

Children, 2018).

CEC has published Exceptional Children (CE) in 1934 until now (EBSCO host, 2018).

However, they have changed the title from Journal of Exceptional Children to Exceptional

Children (EBSCO host, 2018). The former was from 1934 to 1951, and the latter was from 1951

to now (EBSCO host, 2018).

Council for Exceptional Children published this journal as scholar and official journal

(SAGE Publishing, 2018). The aim of the journal is to emphasize improvement and education
people with exceptionalities (SAGE Publishing, 2018). In addition, it considers as “voice and

vision of special education” (Council for Exceptional Children, 2018).

The types of articles that include in Exceptional Children are research reviews,

methodological reviews of the literature, data-based position papers, and policy analyses

(Council for Exceptional Children, 2018). Furthermore, the journal depends on three kinds of

methods which are quantitative, qualitative, and single-subject design studies (SAGE Publishing,

2018). Moreover, the articles have to include implications for research, practice, or policy in

special or gifted education (SAGE Publishing, 2018).

As the cited in the home page of EC journal the type of writers published journal are

leaders in the Special Education (Council for Exceptional Children, 2018). For example, experts,

scholars, and educators from diverse universities (EBSCO host, 2018).

The readers of journals are diverse and heterogeneous which include college and

university faculty, researchers, administrators, graduate and undergraduate students, parents, and

school practitioners (SAGE Publishing, 2018). For that reason, the authors should write the

articles by using brief and clear language. In addition, they should provide plenty of general

information that assists the readers to understand the information in articles (SAGE Publishing,

2018).

According to Exceptional Children (Council for Exceptional Children, 2018), there are 4

issues in each volume, and each issue has from 6 to 8 articles (EBSCO host, 2018). In addition,

there is a preview in the beginning of each issue (EBSCO host, 2018). Usually, each article has

an abstract, an introduction, a methods section which include analysis, results, and a discussions

section which include limitations, and conclusions (EBSCO host, 2018).

Exceptional Children has numerous of criteria to accept the articles (SAGE Publishing,

2018). In the beginning, if the authors want to publish his or her article in the EC journal, they

need to follow the EC requirements (SAGE Publishing, 2018). To illustrate, the article must

achieve the same aim of journal (SAGE Publishing, 2018). Also, the article must fellow APA

format as well as using the bold line for the title and headings (SAGE Publishing, 2018). In

addition, the language of text must conform to the “person first” which means the person comes

first, his or her disability comes second (The Arc, 2018) such as A person who has autism.

Lastly, there is limited number of pages and words for the article, abstract, and title (SAGE

Publishing, 2018). Furthermore, there are several of processes to publish any articles in EC

journal (SAGE Publishing, 2018). In the beginning, the editors need to examine the article and

be sure it includes all the criteria (SAGE Publishing, 2018). After that, they can forward the

article to a blind peer review which is the most important step to accept the article in the journal

(SAGE Publishing, 2018). Moreover, they may be required from the author to modify some

points in his article before publication (SAGE Publishing, 2018). Then the article could publish

in EC journal (SAGE Publishing, 2018).

The EC journal is one of the most important and popular journals for scholars and

educators who are interested in special education especially teaching and policy. It has a general

name which means it include different disabilities. It has the highest impact factor in special

education, and Exceptional Children’s rank in 2017 is one out forty in special education and two

out sixty-nine in Rehabilitation (SSCI) (SAGE Publishing, 2018). In addition, EC takes high

priority for all educators and scholars in the field of special education to get the knowledge. It

considers as an informative source, and It provides them the latest practices and research, so they

will be aware about the news in the field. Furthermore, EC interests to offer new trends in the
field if they have evidence to support their benefits. Lastly, any scholar, who hopes to have

chance to publish his or her article in EC journal, needs to be professional to have this

opportunity.
