The Role of Education in

Today’s Classroom
Azusa Pacific University
Natasha Ioviero
Introduction
Based on what I have learned throughout this course, I have created

three statements that summarize my views, beliefs, and values regarding the

Role of Education in today’s classroom:

1. Educators need to understand the importance of Educational Technology

Standards, Cyber Safety, and Digital Citizenship.

2. The role of technology in the classroom is limitless.

3. Technology impacts the creativity of both teachers and students.

Also included in this presentation are my personal learning goals. My hope is

to use educational technology in the future to equip my students for a

technological world.
Statement #1: Educators need to understand
the importance of Educational Technology
Standards, Cyber Safety, and Digital
Citizenship.
 ISTE Standards “provide a framework for rethinking

education, adapting to a constantly changing technological

landscape and preparing students to enter an increasingly

global economy” (“ISTE”, 2016, para. 1).

 Students should be given rules for to help them be safe online learners.

 Digital citizenship “is the norms of appropriate, responsible technology use”

(Ribble, 2017, para. 1)

Statement #2: The role of technology in
the classroom is limitless.

 The role of technology in the classroom can be at any level:

Substitution, Augmentation, Modification, or Redefinition (“SAMR Model”, n.d.,

para.1).

 The SAMR model shows a progression that educational

technology often follows through teaching and learning (para. 1).

 Technology can be used in diverse ways from using simple

functions such as printing, to complex functions such as creating a

video.
Statement #3: Technology impacts the
creativity of both teachers and students.

 Educators can create online videos for their students to watch at home as

part of a flipped classroom.

 Flipped Classrooms give students time to create in a

way that is not rushed (Van, 2016, para. 3).
 Educators can find creative ideas for lessons on Pinterest
(“11 Ways”, n.d.).
 Students can be creative when given the opportunity to
create videos, PowerPoints, or Prezis.
Inspiration
Personal Learning Goals
 Goal #1:I will use technology to build community among my students by

teaching them to communicate online.

 Goal #2: Technology will be a daily part of my classroom for myself and for my

students.

 Goal #3: As a future Special Education teacher I will create a technology rich

learning environment for all students by using adaptive technology.

 To prepare myself to meet these goals I will continue to grow in my

knowledge of educational technology and I will collect resources in my

LiveBinder that pertain to these goals.

Conclusion

It is important for students to be prepared to live in a technological future.

As an educator it is my goal to incorporate technology in my classroom. I must

prepare my students to be safe online learners. As a teacher in the 21st century I

can incorporate technology in both big and small ways. Educational technology

fosters creativity for both teachers and students.
