LESSON PLAN FORMAT

Lesson Objectives
To inform and introduce the laws that governs special education today. To explain how these laws
became to be. My goal is for my class to know when mainstreaming is taking place and be able to
identify when inclusion is taking action in a classroom environment as well.

Connections
Learning about special education laws right now is beneficial because it keeps an open mind for the
future teachers within the classroom. It also introduces the topic of special education laws without going
in depth with them yet.

Resources
Youtube Video, Elmo (to show my lesson plan), Computer for my powerpoint, a word match
assignment and a small quiz at the end.

Procedures
I will first pass out the activity so that students can get started. I will then introduce my lesson plan.
Before I begin the powerpoint I will ask a question “why are do you think special education laws are
important?” I will then show my video. Go over my powerpoint; Slide 2- History, Slide 3- 3 special
education advocates, Slide 4-what the advocates did, Slide 11-Public Law 94-124, Slide 12 – IDEA,
Slide 13 - IDEA eligibility, Slide 14 - 6 fundamentals of IDEA, Slide 15- Zero Reject, Slide 16 - Parental
Participation, Slide 17-Nondiscriminatory Education, Slide 18-Least-Restrictive Environment, Slide 19-
Procedural due process, Slide 20-Individualized Education Program (IPE), go over activity, take the quiz
at the end. To conclude I will ask the class why they think special education laws are important.

Student Assessment
I will assess my students by going over the activity to see how well they understood the information, I will
also add a small quiz at the end of my powerpoint just to make sure they did know the information.
