The new lamps have a diameter of only % inch, about
the thickness of a pencil. The largest, the 1500-watt, is
only 10 inches long. Its total size is only 1/200th of
the smallest previous 1500-watt general lighting lamp.
This small size opens up hundreds of new uses where
the available space is small.

High efficiency throughout life enables 500-watt

Quartzline lamps to provide 18 percent more light than

general lighting lamp. The advantage of the high-voltage
1500-watt lamp is even greater: 50 percent more light
over its life than the comparable PS-52, 1500-watt lamp.

More light, small size make Quartzline lamps econom-

ical. Few lamps are needed to produce large amounts

D of light. Small size and weight make the lamps and

fixtures easy and economical to handle and install.

Quartzline lamps never grow dim. Mean light output is

because of a unique iodine cycle which prevents
tungsten particles from accumulating on the bulb wall

I and into practical application comes the new Quartzline lamp. Like Edison's
first, it is an incandescent, or filament, Iamp. But it contains a combination
of features never before available in any lamp type. Examine these
features and see how they can help you solve your lighting problems.

Since a straight-line lilament is practical in the

Quartzline, it can furnish a light beam as narrow as six
degrees in one dimension. The shape of the lamp makes
it easy to produce a rectangular beam - very desirable
for the many applications where such a beam shape
preciselv fits the area to be lighted.

Light weight goes hand-in-hand with the Quartzline's

small size. Combined with small, lightweight fixtures,
the lamps mahe possible compact lighting units. They
save valuable ounces mounted on equipment where
weight is important.

The Quartzline is far more resistant to thermal shock

than regular filament lamps. Light a Quartzline and let
it heat up, then douse it in ice water or surround it
with ice cubes. The lamp will take this punishment.

evaporate from the lamp filament, they combine with

the iodine gas in the lamp to form tungsten iodide.
When this substance comes into contact with the hot
filament, the great heat frees the iodine, and causes the
tungsten to be redeposited on the filament. This self-
cleaning action gives you full light throughout the life
of the lamp. Compare, in the photo, tubes without
and with iodine-
