THE TRUMPET CALL

Our Mission: To love Jesus Christ and to share His Love

Our Vision: To be a Christian community where Christ is transforming lives
East Stroudsburg United Methodist Church Volume IV Issue 47 November 25, 2018

Pastor’s Corner
I pray that each of our church families had a wonderful and blessed Thanksgiving and that everyone stayed safe! The
Sunday after Thanksgiving is many times the first Sunday of Advent, but not this year. Advent does not begin until
December 2, so November 25 is Christ the King Sunday when we will look at what it means to be “Kingdom people” as
part of Christ’s Kingdom. Even though it is not technically Advent yet, we will also start two Sunday morning studies to
help get us focused for the seasons ahead, and I will begin a Monday afternoon study for those who don’t like to be out
after dark. It begins on November 26, and as a correction to what was printed last week, the second study will occur the
following Monday, not Tuesday, as previously reported. We’ll be looking at
what each of the Gospels says about Jesus’ birth. At the first study, we’ll
look at the Gospel of Mark, who says nothing about the birth of Jesus. We’ll
ask, “Why not?” and look at what Mark does emphasize as the first Gospel
written about Jesus. Please see the articles elsewhere in the Trumpet Call
to find out more about each of our Advent studies.

Pictured right, is a photo of part of our staff and several volunteers who
together under the leadership of Ana Price, prepared meals for our
homebound members who will be eating alone this Thanksgiving. We
prayed over these meals that each who receives them experiences God’s
blessings and knows they are loved by our congregation. Robin Braun was
also a part of this gathering; he was taking the photo!

Finally, I want to say a word of thanks to all those who had a part in our
Celebration Sunday on November 18. It was such a blessing to stand in the front of the Sanctuary and look out to see a mixture of people
from both of our Sunday morning services sitting side by side. There was a great spirit in worship, and then we enjoyed a good meal and
had a chance through the slide show to reflect on all the ways we have been blessed by God and sought to be a blessing to our
community with God’s guidance. It warmed my heart to see so many come forward with their commitments, and I prayed silently for each
who came forward. You may continue to bring your commitments and can put them in the offering any Sunday.
Blessings in Christ, Pastor Jim
