Objective (Explicit):

Using a class activity: jeopardy, students will be able to identify, differentiate, and memorize
ten different vocabulary words including their meanings, root prefixes, and root language.

Evidence of Mastery (Measurable):

Vocabulary Test:
Teacher will read aloud the vocabulary word two times and use it in a sentence. Please spell
the word using correct punctuation and capitalization.

The vocabulary test is worth 100 points, 5 points for 20 questions separately scoring each of
the prefixes’ meaning and root language.

Teacher will write on the board the following: expectations, objectives and instructions.
Expectations:
You cannot rob yourself or others the opportunity to learn. Be respectful.

Objectives:
Students will be able to spell ten vocabulary words and identify their root meanings and
language.
Instructions:
- Students will study vocabulary words (15 minutes)
- Students will turn in all vocabulary lists to the front
- Class will participate in two games of Jeopardy (30 minutes)
- Students will take vocabulary tests (15 minutes)

Game Instructions:
- Students will be placed into two teams
- A different person must go each time in order for the points to count
- Groups will have 30 seconds to discuss the answer QUIETLY
- The team with the most points will get 5 bonus points on their vocabulary test

The Jeopardy game would have four different categories:

1. Spell The Word


- Each block will have the sentence “spell this word _____” and the teacher will read
aloud a word.

2. Use it in a sentence
- Each block will have a word and the students will have to use that word correctly in a
sentence.

3. Root Language
- Each block will have one of the prefixes on it and the students will have to guess the
correct root language.

4. Prefix Meaning
- Each block will have one of the prefixes on it and the students will have to guess the
correct meaning.

Scoring for the words: 100-easy, 200-challenging, 300-medium, 400-difficult, 500-hard

Co-Teaching Strategy/Differentiation

Team Teaching:
One teacher would be sitting at the front table leading a study group for the students
who struggle to study on their own while the other teacher walks around the
classroom to make sure the students are on task and answering any questions they
may have.

Differentiation:
Students who struggle to study on their own will have the opportunity to sit at the
front table with one of the teachers as they lead a study group.

Explain

Team Teaching:
One teacher will be running the Jeopardy game in the front of the classroom while
the other teacher walks around the room to answer questions and make sure the
students are on task.

Differentiation:
Students who feel uncomfortable participating and have prior educational needs can
opt out of answering a question in front of the class. It is not assumed that these
students would not want to participate but they would be given the choice.

Co-Teaching Strategy/Differentiation

Team Teaching:
One teacher will be reading the test out loud for the students while the other teacher
collects and grade tests. The other teacher also monitors for cheating.

Differentiation:
Students with educational needs will be given modified tests and graded on a
modified test score. These modified vocabulary lists would be given out the week
before.

Evaluate

Students will be evaluated on two factors: participating in the two Jeopardy games by
answering at least one question and their grade on their vocabulary test. The vocabulary test
is graded on a scale of 100 points, each question being worth 5 points (prefix meaning and
root language 5pts each). Students will have the chance to earn 5 bonus points if their team
scores the most points.
