AFDF Announces First Place Winners of Alaska Symphony of Seafood
All Awards to be Announced Feb. 19th, 2019
SEATTLE, Washington (Tuesday, November 20, 2018) — Alaska Fisheries Development
Foundation (AFDF) announced the 1st place winners of the Alaska Symphony of Seafood during
Pacific Marine Expo on Monday, November 19th. The Alaska Symphony of Seafood is an annual
contest for new value‐added products made from Alaska Seafood. The goal of the Alaska
Symphony of Seafood is to increase the value of Alaska seafood by encouraging product
development which diversifies markets, utilizes more of the resource, and reduces fish waste.
The Alaska Symphony of Seafood kicked off on November 14th in Seattle with the private judging
session. Each product entered into the competition was grouped into one of three categories:
Retail, Foodservice and Beyond the Plate. Product entries were individually evaluated in each
category by a panel of expert judges. The competition enlists chefs, food scientist, and industry
experts to pick the best new Alaska Seafood product of the year. In Seattle, the judges tasted,
deliberated and scored all the products. Evaluation were based on the product packaging and
presentation, overall eating experience, price and potential for commercial success.
Also on November 14th, AFDF held the Seattle Open House in collaboration with the Northwest
Fisheries Association. At this event, the guests sample each product and voted on their favorite
product. The votes are tallied that evening and the winner was awarded the Seattle People’s
Choice (also listed below). This year’s first place winners in each category include:
• RETAIL: Protein Noodles by Trident Seafoods
• FOODSERVICE: Alaska Cod Dumplings by Tai Foong USA
• BEYOND THE PLATE: Wild Alaska Pollock Oil by Alaska Naturals Pet Products
• SEATTLE PEOPLE’S CHOICE: Protein Noodles by Trident Seafoods
