CHAPTER V

SUMMARY, FINDINGS, CONCLUSION and RECOMMENDATIONS

This chapter looks at the summary, findings, conclusion and recommendations


and suggestions for further research.

SUMMARY

Academic performance is considered as key criteria to judge one’s total


potentialities and capacities and study habits. Keep importance in students’ academic
spheres. This study was entitled “HOW TO DEVELOP and MAINTAIN GOOD STUDY
HABIT”, which the respondents are the sophomores and seniors of Anda National High
School of the school year 2017-2018.

Based on the study done by the researchers, the following have been
summarized and formulated.

In this study the following problems are formulated and need to be answered:

1. The demographic profile of the students in terms of:


a. age
b. gender
c. academic standing
2. What is the correlation between study habits and academic performance?
3. What is the effect of study environment on study habit?
4. What are the factors affecting students study habits and academic performance?

FINDINGS

The goal of this study is to find out the good study habits of the students through
their academic performance of the school year 2017-2018.

The researchers ask permission from the office of the principal, Mr. Gilberto
Manuel Penuliar to allow the researchers to conduct a survey to the selected students
of sophomores and seniors. The respondents were selected through random sampling
method. The respondents have a total population of 45. Twenty five are from seniors
and twenty of them are from sophomores. Sophomores and seniors composed of 4
sections each. These are the following sections: Aguinaldo, Quezon, Del Pilar, Osmeña,
Narra, Molave, Acacia and Mahogany. Those were (17) males or 37.78% and (28) are
females or 62.22. Majority of them are 13 years old or 31.11%. Most of them also are all
belong in the average, the frequency is 38 and the percentage is 84.44%. In their
academic standing, most of them are very satisfactory with 95.56% followed by
satisfactory with 31.11%. The most common factors that can affect their study habits is
“Low Students Intellectual Ability” with 24.44% followed by “Lack of goals” and “poverty”
with 81.11% and the rest are having 8.89%. Some of this are “Low of Self-esteem”,
Poor study habits and achievement motivation. The most common ways or steps to
have a successful study habits of the students is to have a “Time management” with
33.33% followed by joining “organization with 26.67%, “Have a good environment with
22.22% and lastly “Have motivation” with 17.78%. Next are the problems and difficulties
they are experiencing in their study. First is “Low of self-esteem” with 44.44% followed
by poor study habits with 28.89% and lack of time with 26.67%. Factors that affect their
study, “Environment” with 42.22%. Followed by Lack of time and poor study habit with
both 28.89%. Lastly, are ways how to cope up with those factors. Most of them
answered “Have motivation or goal” with a total of 35.56% followed by Time
management with 11.11%. It means that most of the students’ needs to improve their
study habits to excell in their academic performances. They need motivation in order
them to be actively participate in the discussion.

CONCLUSION

From the analysis it was found that:

1. The demographic profile of the respondents affects most of the students study
habit.
2. Interaction effect of living area was found to be insignificant in order to determine
students study habit.
3. Students doesn’t have time management and self-esteem.
4. Data in this study have revealed the important role that parents, teachers, and
other mentors paly in directing study habits towards good and positive outcomes
as well as the importance of helping students relate their activities to future goals
so as to positively shape their interest.
5. Having motivation or goal is the key to become students actively participate in
class discussion.
6. More research needed to monitor the impact of learning communities that
develop good study habit.

RECOMMENDATION

On the basis of present study some recommendation for students in the schools
are drawn as follow:

 It would be north while for all stake holders in education. i.e. parents, teachers
and government to encourage student in their respective areas of responsibilities
such as providing study material, conductive place of study, recognizing
excellence, appreciating students hard work as soon as possible among other.
These will help to motivate the students positively towards their study and
academic achievement.
 Students should be taught study skills so that they can cultivate good and
effective study skill.
 As inhabitance was found in developing study, there is need for curriculum
developers and learners to take the availabilities of different facilities of their
respective area into account when developing curriculum and designing
instructions.
 Parents should improve the level of control and care of their children. Show more
interest and concern in the academic work of their words by way of providing
conducive atmosphere for studies, providing materials for studies and helping
students in their studies.
 It is necessary for parents and teachers to maintain a warm and cordial
relationship with their child and students irrespective to their gender differences.

These recommendations can be achieved by talking to parents and in the issues


raisin in the forum like PTA (Parent Teachers Association). Group counseling can
also be recognized for students on good study habits. School administrators, the
head teachers should forward the needs the needs and problems affecting
students study habits and academic achievement to government for intervention.
