PHILOSOPHER: They are not prophets, but they are also inspirational

A philosopher is a person engaged or learned in philosophy, especially as an academic

discipline. The Philosopher is synonyms with thinker, theorist, or logician. The noun philosophy
means the study of good and proper behavior and the search for wisdom. The original meaning
of word philosophy comes from the Greek roots Philo- meaning “ love” and –Sophos, or
“wisdom”. When someone studies philosophy, they want to understand how and why people do
certain things and how to live a good life. In other words, they want to know the meaning of life.
Add the suffix –er to philosophy, and you get a word for someone whose job it is to think these
big thoughts. “Filsuf Barat” or western philosopher is not a prophet, they are not receiving
messages from God and preserved from sin and made mistakes. In contrast to the knowledge we
mostly get based on scripture and religious texts, methods, and sources of knowledge of most
western philosophers are often criticized for using the logic of mind, observation and a
combination between the two. However, their ideas still being discussed until today after
hundreds and thousands of years because of one thing–that they have tried to answer the same
question that human think today.

Plato was one of the students of Socrates. His book became a reference until now that is
The Republic (380 BC), The Symposium (385 BC- 370 BC) and The Laws ( 348 BC). Plato

qualities are unfortunate and not bad people, they should be pitied ”.

Personal View
My personal view for this book is the author tries to simplify the reader’s
understanding of philosophy makes it fun. Beside that, this book teaches us that we need to
expand and free our thinking not to think within a single scope and understand that knowledge is
broad, not only belongs to the Muslim but also belongs to Non-Muslim. In other words, Muslims
do not have to be dogmatic by denying the progress they bring in knowledge. However, as long as
the end result of the philosophy is beneficial to religious life, then do it. On the other hand, there
will be times and things that a philosophy cannot achieve and contrary to religious life, then make
religion a priority.

Conclusion

As a conclusion, we should cultivate the reading culture in our lives so that our
knowledge will increase. Next, the parent needs to cultivate a reading culture to their children
when they are young. In addition, it is also important for us to choose the reading material that
gives your benefits to yourself. Lastly, I hope that one day we can invite writers to give a speech
and talk here.
