Activities to develop

The first step to interact with the software is to download and install it.
In the practical learning environment there is a link to access Smith V 4.0 software.
In the following, it will be presented instructions to use the software.
1. When the software starts, it looks like in the following image.

The area A represents the Smith Chart, by default it shows the Z-plane and Y-plane
but could be configured according to the user necessities.

The area B represents the transmission line circuit, according to the components
associated to this.

The area C represents the cursor transmission line parameters analysis, which
shows information like the characteristic impedance, admittance, conductance,
reflection coefficient and VSWR, according to the cursor position in the Smith Chart.

2. When the settings icon is hit, the following options appear

From this panel, it is possible to set the Default line impedance and change the way
the Smith Chart appears.

Let see an example to understand how to make a basic load representation

in the Smith Chart

In a lossless transmission line with 𝑍0 = 50Ω and 𝑍𝐿 = 30 + 𝑗45Ω, find the reflection
coefficient and VSWR using Smith V4.0

 The first step will be to set the characteristic impedance in the settings.
However, the default value is 𝑍0 = 50Ω, thereby it is not necessary to change
this value.
 The second step is to hit the keyboard icon, in order to set the load
impedance.

 Then, the real part and the imaginary part of the load have to be introduced in
the suitable text box.

 When the OK button is hit, the load point is set on the Smith Chart.
 When the mouse pointer is put on the load, the cursor panel shows the
following information.

From the last image, the reflection coefficient is Γ = 0,537∠84,611o

In the agreement 029 of December 13, 2013, article 99, the
mistakes that infringe upon the academic order, among others, are
the following: paragraph e) “To plagiarize is to present as your own
work the whole or part of a writing, report, task or document of
invention performed by another person. It also implies the use of
cites or lack of references, or includes cites where there is no
coincidence between them and the reference” and paragraph f)”To

reproduce, or copy for profit, educational resources or results of
policy
research products, which have intellectual rights reserved for the
University”.

The academic punishments that the student will face are:

a) In case of academic fraud proved in the academic work or
evaluation, the score achieved will be zero (0.0) without
leading to disciplinary measures.
b) In case of plagiarism proved in the academic work of any
nature, the score achieved will be zero (0.0), without leading
to disciplinary measures.
