2 Project Objectives:

The main objective of this project is to study of the dimensioning of solar energy system with a power
of 5MW that is connected to Polytehnica University Campus.

2.3. Model of transforms the solar energy into heat

2.3.1. Theoretical basis

Solar thermal energy (STE) is a form of energy and a technology for harnessing solar energy
to generate thermal energy The solar thermal systems work on the principle

glass effect (Figure 2.11).

2.2.3. System design

First, the following data are needed:

- Radiation intensity where installed: R (KWh / m2)

- Total hot water required: G (liter, kg)

- Hot water temperature required: tnn (oC)

- Temperature of cold water supply: tnl (oC)

- Performance of the system template that we intend to fabricate, install.

From the parameters above we calculate the amount of heat requirement :

Q = G.(tnn - tnl).Cn [KWh]

Performance η (%)

Surface Collector Required :

A = Q / (η.R)

2.2.4. Install the system

a) Natural circulation system

b) Forced circulation system

c) Large system assembly

II.Problem statement:

Regie, located in 290Splaiul Independentei, sector 6, Bucharest, is composed of 27 student halls (26
belonging to UPB and one – P20 belonging to the University of Medicine),

1.Power Supply
From Enel Substation….

2.Power Consumption

Study object

3.1 Select type of model Thermal Power System

3.2 Tehnical Calculation

For one of Student Hall (Block /camin ) The total number of rooms is:( for example camin P8 )

Number of rooms: 5 floor x 20 room/floor = 100 (room/camin)

Number of students in the dormitory: 3 students /room

Total Student /camin : 2 x 100 =200 students

According to the average water standard is 25 liters of hot water per day for one person. Usually the
highest demand occurs during the morning rush and after dinner. Some days you may use more or less
hot water, depending on your activities.

So the volume of hot water to supply

The Total Hot water will be : 300 x 25 = 7,500 (liters/day) =

1 l/day = 0.000000012 m3/sec

Average radiation intensity per year where installed:

R = 4.425 (kWh / m2

- Total hot water required: G = 7,500 (liter)

- Hot water temperature required: tnn = 60 (oC)

- Temperature of cold water supply: tnl = 25 (oC)

- Choose a system template with absorption strip interwoven into the range

tube, with this type of performance is: η = 40% = 0.4.

The average specific heat of water Cn = 1.16 Wh / kg.0C

With the above data we can calculate the amount of heat needed in one

day is:
() [kWh / day] (according to Equation 2.31)

() [Wh / day]

= 304.5 [kWh / day]

And the required Collector surface area:

() [m

For 172 m2 Collector (PV thermal ) to supply 7,500 liters of hot water( 60 grad Celcius ) per day.

The standard size of each Collector is 2 m2, so number of Collector will be: 172/2 =86 m2

The Collector will be:
