7 Regrets
Activity
Individual & groupwork. Students imagine various regrets
and thoughts about the past that various characters might
have.

Focus
Hypothetical past situations.

Preparation
Photocopy one worksheet for every eight students. Cut the
worksheet into separate role cards.

Procedure
• Explain that students are going to think about regrets and
thoughts about the past that various characters might
have.
• Hand out one role card to each student. Tell students not
to show each other their cards.
• Students work individually to write notes for points 1–3,
imagining what their character’s life is like and thinking
about what they regret and don’t regret. Tell them to use
all three of the structures listed on their card.
• When students are ready, divide the class into groups of
three or more students.
• Students take it in turns to read out their answers to points
2 and 3 (i.e. not the description in point 1 or the role card
itself).
• When they have heard the regrets and non-regrets, the
other students should discuss together to see if they can
guess as accurately as possible who the person is that is
being described. When they have said their guess, the
original student can read the role card aloud. How close
were they?
