FOAID:
FOAID media partnered with CNBC TV 18, started with the idea of celebrating the
glory of Indian Architecture & Design. Since its inception in the year 2014, it aims
to create a benchmark where the stalwarts & the future designers share a
common platform to discuss how the design world has transformed & innovated
to create a future of spell bound figures. FOAID is an annual design festival of
creative minds to meet, discuss & focus on bringing out the passion for design
from the entire creative field. As we embark on our 5th year, FOAID promises to
create a journey of Design which would be all about Inspiration- Imagination- Spirit
of Design with the theme “TIME TO REIMAGINE”…

THE COMPETITION
INTRODUCTION
“EXPRESSIONS”- An annual art design installation competition, celebrates the
talent and fresh design ideas of Architecture & Interior Design students
throughout the country. The Student Design Competition encourages original
design and rewards teams whose projects demonstrate innovative & functional
design solutions that have a positive environmental and human impact and also
allows an opportunity to showcase their work and fresh design ideas to
professionals working in the field of Design industry.

With over 100 architecture and design colleges participating in 2018 from across
India, Expression is not just an award; it is the indicator of quality and perfection in
design and art. The award will be recognized nationwide and will take the
attention of Art & life-style media, Design professionals and interest groups.
Winning the “Expressions” Award is a certificate of excellence for students, an
important milestone in their career. Winning Team will be felicitated on Day 2 of
FOAID at the awards ceremony in presence of the leading Design professionals.
The Jury is composed of both Academic and Professionals participants nationwide.
AIM AND VISION

“Expressions”, the Art Design Award aims to encourage young talents to think out
of the box and express their ideas to attract the attention of Design fraternity
by means of creating publicity and dissemination and also to separate them from
the rest of the actors in the architecture, interior design and arts field by
honoring the winners with a Prestigious award.

DESIGN THEME:
Students are required to Design an installation around the theme, “EXPRESSIONS”
incorporating 5 different elements or materials as an acclamation and a
celebration of FOAID’s 5 years journey.

ELIGIBILITY
• The Design Competition is open to students based in India who are currently
enrolled at an Architecture & Interior Design program or Institution.
• Only 1 Entry per College is allowed.
• Students from any year can participate in this competition.
• The Group can comprise of any number of students. However, only 2 Students
& a Mentor will be allowed to participate for the event.
• Entries should be Submitted Zone wise.
• No Entry Fee for the competition

 Zone 1- Jammu & Kashmir, Himachal, Punjab, Uttrakhand, Haryana, Delhi, Uttar
Pradesh, Rajasthan, Chhattisgarh, Orissa, Jharkhand, Bihar, Sikkim, Assam,
Meghalaya, Tripura, Mizoram, Nagaland, Arunachal Pradesh, West Bengal.
 Zone 2- Maharashtra, Telangana, Andhra Pradesh, Karnataka, Tamil Nadu,
Kerala, Lakshadweep, Andaman Nicobar, Goa, Gujarat, Madhya Pradesh
JURY
The jury panel comprising of eminent Architects, Interior Designers, Artists and
Professors will judge the Installations at Delhi & Mumbai to select Zonal and
National Winners.

A panel of judges will evaluate the entries on:

• Design Concept
• Material Understanding
• Visual Impact
• Engineering
• Presentation
• Innovation
• Fun Details
• Cost Break up for the given budget

Competition process
• Colleges have to register online to participate
• Online Submission of installation design as per guidelines
• Core juries will shortlist 5 installations from each zone to have the physical
installation at FOAID Event.
• Zone 1 will have their installation at FOAID Delhi edition and Zone 2 will have
their installation at FOAID Mumbai edition.
• 5 shortlisted installation from each zone will compete for following title
1 Diamond winner
1 Gold winner
1 Silver winner
1 Bronze winner

• DIAMOND winners of each zone will be competing for PLATINUM.

• A Platinum winner for expression will be announced at FOAID MUMBAI
EDITION.
SPACE ALLOCATION
The space allocated for a single installation will be 4’x4’ or 4’ diameter and not
exceeding 7’ ft in height

• Select a group of students select a Mentor (Faculty Member for Guidance) E-

ONLINE SUBMISSION REQUIREMENTS

Each submission must include the following:
• Registration No (which will be provided by the organizer)
• Project title (Installation Name)
• 500-word limit description about your project.
• A3 size design in PDF/ JPEG format not to exceed 5MB size.
• Kindly share the Cost Break up for the given budget.

ONLINE SUBMISSION GUIDELINES

Deliveries at this stage: Two A-2 size boards in the form of JPEG or PDF format
mentioning the six-digit code at the right-side bottom of the page. The boards that
contain any personal or college names or description that will reveal the identity
of the group will be disqualified from the Competition. The layout can be in
portrait or landscape format. Each board should not exceed 5 MB in size.

The boards need to be composed with the following data

1. Concept: This may include following points: What is the installation all about,
what is the design process, what is the research criteria, what is the overall impact,
why this particular design.
2. Material Selection: its properties and how you have used it
3.Drawings: May include plans, sections, elevations and sketch views to explain
overall theme.
4. Photographs: Students may include photographs of the inspirations, block /
small-scale models. (This is not compulsory, but is recommended to explain the
theme for better understanding)

SHORTLIST ANNOUNCEMENT
Online submissions will be judged by a group of juries and a list of 5 shortlisted
entries per zone would be notified via E-mail & also will be published on social
media.

PHYSICAL INSTALLATION – STAGE

The shortlisted entries need to make full size installations in the sizes mentioned
above and need to transport it to the venue themselves. For the easement of
transport, Students need to design the installation that can be easily
assembled & dismantled.

Please Note-
• Students need to be present at their installation on both days i.e.- 21-22
September, 2018 to attend the visitors for Zone 1 and 7-8 December 2018 to
attend the visitors of Zone 2
• The installation needs to be dismantled on day 2 of the competition post 7 PM
from the venue. The organizer will not take any responsibility regarding the
same.
• Hanging products from the ceiling or the walls will not be allowed while
installing the product at the venue
• No extra attachments to the installation will be allowed beyond the allotted
area.

Zone 2
Competition Opens: 1st April 2018
Registration Ends: 25th September, 2018

Installation Set up Deadline: 6th December, 2018, 8.00 PM

TAKE AWAY FOR WINNERS

• Winner group will be felicitated on Day 2 of the festival at the Awards
Ceremony in presence of 400 fraternity members
• The winning installations designs will be uploaded on FOAID website along with
the college details.
• Promotion of winners through Social Media Campaign.
• Two students from the winning team get an opportunity to interact with the
leading practicing Architects and Interior Designers present at the festival.
• Nominee Project will be Featured in IDEA NEXT - Coffee Table Book
• Complimentary pass to the Conference
• Complimentary IDEA NEXT - Coffee Table Book – 1 per college
• Extensive PR Campaign
• Communicated to Magazines
• Winner installation to be featured in the newsletter Design Element
• Winners' Certificate
• Gala-Night Invitation
• Feedback Notes by the Jury
TERMS & CONDITIONS
• An amount of INR 20,000/- will be provided to all the participants to create the
installation which also includes making, to & fro of the installation at the event.
• An amount of INR 10000/- will be provided to all the outstation participants for
their travel & stay.
• For the outstation students are requested to kindly share your travel & stay
details when booked.
• Please note that the participants who are from the host city (i.e. New Delhi,
NCR, Gurgaon, Noida, Mumbai, Navi Mumbai & Thane for respective events)
will not be given any amount for travel & stay.
• The promised amount will be given to the college after the event. The amount
will not be given if the installation & the students don’t reach the venue &
install the same.
