1. Scope :

Nautical publications and charts published by the Department of


Navigation, Hydrography and Oceanography are rendered in this
catalogue for public use.

2.1. Chart demands by the Department of


Navigation, Hydrography and Oceanography

As the nautical charts have to be provided, with the latest


ammendments and after completion of stocking and registration proce-
dures according to (BMYS), it is recommended to make the chart
reguests to DNHO via proper means (e.g., fax, mail, message) and to
coordinate the delivery date before coming to the office.

2.2 The Procuration of Charts and Nautical Publications

The charts and nautic publications which are published by DNHO, are
not only sold at DNHO, but also at our authorized resellers. The
prospective buyers can obtain the desired charts and nautic publica-
tions from our department of DNHO or the agents listed below. The
prices of the charts and publications sold by DNHO and the agents are
the same.

USE OF CATALOGUE OF NAUTICAL
PUBLICATIONS AND CHARTS

1. The smallest scale charts of the Black Sea, Sea of Marmara,


Aegean Sea and Mediterranean published by the Department of
Navigation, Hydrography and Oceanography are indicated in the
index on page 2.

2. "SEE PAGE ..." notes are indicative of the catalogue pages


of the area's larger scale charts.

3. For the large scale chart series of Black Sea and Eastern
Mediterranean the note "ADJOINING PAGE IS ..." is
printed on the catalogue notes.

4. Chart numbers are in upright position while the plans in a small


scale chart are in italics.

5. The chart numbers of the international (INT) chart series are


preceded by the mark (*).

6. To keep this catalogue, Navigation charts and nautical publications


corrected up-to-date, follow the Weekly Notices to Mariners.
(See Corrections to Charts.)

7. Publication terminology :

New Chart : The first publication of a chart so as to meet the


navigational requirements of an area.

New Edition : A new issue of an existing chart, containing


amendments essential to navigation replacing its previous
editions including the latest navigational information in addition to
Noice's to Mariners registered on the chart.

New Print : A reproduction making use of (utilizing) Notices to


Mariners bringing about a new edition of an existing chart in which
amendments that of navigational safety are kept invariable. (Kept to
a minimum).

Reprint : A new print of the current edition of a chart unaffected by


Notices to Mariners as it cannot be obtained from a stockholding.
The existing dates in this chart are kept invariable and reproduced
a like previous issues.

8. Information Catalogue Pages:

Number of the chart : Magenta numbers printed below/above


national numbers bearing relation to the national scheme, black
numbers in the bottom-left hand and the top-right hand corners,
and international (INT) schemes.

The chart numbers are started with 1 in the Black Sea, with 29
in Sea of Marmara, with 2 in the Aegean Sea and with 3 in the
Eastern Mediterranean.

The passage charts on a scale of between 1 : 1 500 000 and


1 : 500 000 and the coastal charts on a scale of between
1 : 500 000 and 1 : 150 000 are in two digits.

The charts on a scale of between 1 : 150 000 and 1 : 50 000


appertaining to the port approach and the congested and
intricate waters are in three digits.

The anchorage and narrow strait charts on a scale 1 : 50 000


and larger are in four digits.
As far as this system is concerned, when navigating on chart 112,
the plan's number - the initial three digits starting with 112 - will
contain four digits. On the other hand, the first three - digit
navigation chart can be found out without taking into account the
catalogue so as to be able to move on to a chart of smaller scale
than that of a four - digit plan.

Title : The geographical names defining the area covered by the


chart. The name disused or rarely used by the authorities is given in
brackets in case an area is in possession of more than one familiar
name.

Scale : The mean latitudes of 1 : 500 000 - 1 : 150 000 scale coastel
charts are 41°30' and 44°00', for the Black Sea, 39°00' for the Aegean
Sea and 36°00' for the Eastern Mediterranean.

The mean latitudes of 1 : 150 000 scale charts are 44°00'


1 : 100 000 scale charts 41°30' for the Black Sea, 40°40' for the Sea
of Marmara, 38°00' for the Aegean Sea and 36°00' for the Eastern
Mediterranean.

The scales of the portolons are in accordance with their own mid
latitudes.

Boundaires : Adjacent small/medium scale charts overlap each other


and their corner coordinates are noted in the catalogue.

Dimensions : The dimensions of inner borders indicated in the


bottom right - hand corner (mm).

Date of Publication : The original date of publication date of the


charts, this date is to remain unchanged ant it is supplied outside its
bottom margin in the middle as shown in diagram (1).

Date of (last) New Edition : The latest date of Notices to Mariners


applied to (incorporated on) a newly published chart is given and this
is shown to the right of the Date of Publication of the chart.

Date of Printing : The date the chart is actually printed is the same
as the date of Notices to Mariners subsequent to its production and is
displayed to the right of the bottom margin (Diagram 3).

IMPORTANT

CORRECTIONS TO CHARTS

The charts contain all essential information gathered up till the date of
publication. The information and alterations obtained subsequently are
kept corrected by Weekly Notices to Mariners promulgated by the
Department of Navigation, Hydrography and Oceanography.

Newly published nautical publications and charts and those that have
fallen into disuse are promulgated through Notices to Mariners,
Weekly Editions.

The nautical publications and charts are kept corrected day-to-day by


the Department of Navigation, Hydrography and Oceanography and
are despatched rubber-stamped accordingly from the time they are
started to be distributed till the latest issue of Weekly Notices to
Mariners.

THE RELIABILITY OF THE INFORMATION CONTAINED IN THE


CHARTS CAN BE MAINTAINED ONLY BY DAY-TO-DAY
CORRECTIONS.

The HYDROGRAPHIC MEMORANDUMS added to the end of Weekly


Notices to Mariners for the provision of navigation safety should be
filled in accordance with the explanations disclosed (on the page).

Any concern hazardous to the safety of navigation is required to be


reported to the address below by means of telegraph. The postal serv-
ice will not charge any fee according to the Board of Ministers Decree
number 6/6218.

* INTERNATIONAL (INT) CHARTS

In order to promote the use of a local standard chart in place of the


charts of different nations facilitated by all marines at sea has con-
curred to produce the International (INT) Chart Series with local
hydrographic commissions.

REMEMBER THAT A DANGER NOT REPORTED MAY COST


THE LIFE OF MANY OTHER MARINERS.

Production responsibilities of these charts has been handed over to


the coastal states, to be compiled from more reliable sources.

THE MEDITERRANEAN - BLACK SEA HYDROGRAPHIC COMMIS-


SION has begun proceedings setting up a Working Group in order the
INT charts covering the Mediterranean and Black Sea to be planned and
the countries that will undertake the production to be determined. The
Group named MEDINT CHART has schemed charts covering the area
and the coastal states that will take over the production responsibility
has been determined.

The INT Charts whose production responsibility is allocated to Turkey


are listed on the next page and shown on the index pages.
