WebQuests

I have created a 5 series WebQuest of Exploring Canada in the Grade 5 Social Studies
Curriculum. In this series, the students will learn the different geographic regions, as well as
what makes them different and how that changes the people who live in the regions. The last 2
quests allow students to find their connection to Canada through their ancestors and learn
about influential personalities and inventions from Canada. The goal is to create more
connections to Canada and their feeling of citizenship and belonging while understanding the
geography of our large country.
My gamified solution for Grade 5 Social Studies is created in a structured solution. I like this
format for the topic as it allows students to know what they should learn at the end of the
Quest, while still having control of finding the information. As well, it allows students to directly
compare the differences and similarities for the different regions of Canada. The structured
gamified solution allows the teacher to quickly identify if the students really understand the
information through their responses to the Quests. This is important as this is necessary
information required for the rest of the Grade 5 Social Studies curriculum.
Ranking:
As students move through the topics, they receive badges for specific tasks that they finish. Not
all topics receive badges and not all badges will be easy to receive. The ranks for these quests
will go:

0-4 Badges 5-9 Badges 10-14 Badges 15-19 Badges 20-24 Badges 25 Badges

0 XP 100 XP 200 XP 300 XP 400 XP 500 XP

Each WeQuest is worth 100 XP
