RECRUITING PROCEDURES- JAMAICA

CONSTABULARY FORCE
RECRUITING PROCEDURES

The first step in the recruiting process is the entrance test.


Requirements for the entrance test are:
4 CXC subjects including English and Maths or person with pass in Accounts or Physics.
4 Passport size photos (stamped and signed by a JP, Police inspector or higher rank)
Birth certificate
NIS
TRN
A valid identification

NB.All documents must be originals however photo copies may accompany the originals.

The entrance test has five sections:


Math
Spelling
Reading Comprehension
Grammar
Word Usage

The test is conducted 8:00 a.m. Mondays to Fridays at the recruiting centres. The entire exam is marked
out of 200 and in order to pass, the applicant must attain at least 120 marks. The spelling test is
administered first, it has thirty words and the applicant must get 15 of the words correct to pass the exam.
Applicants are told whether or not they have passed the exam the same day.

After the exam, the successful applicant(s) is/are given two application forms to complete in duplicate.
They are also given paper to write their personal history, which should not be less than 250 words in
length.

After all the above processes the applicant’s weight, height and chest measurement are taken. The
application forms along with the answer sheets for the exam are sent to the central recruiting office,
located at the Police Academy in Twickenham Park Spanish Town, St. Catherine.

After the application is received at Central Recruiting, the following procedures then commence:
1. Files are vetted
2. Applicants are given an assessment date
3. Interviews
4. Physical
5. Medical
6. Blood Test
7. Antecedent reports are done.
Applicants MUST pass all of the above stages in order to move on to the other stage. Female applicants do
two interviews and they must be successful at both interviews.

TRAINING
There are three stages that must be completed by the successful applicant during training.
First Stage
Intermediate Stage
Final Stage

At the end of each stage there is an examination that each student MUST pass in order to move on to the
next stage.

Height Requirements: Male (Min) - 5’ 5” Female (Min)-5’3”


Weight Requirements: Male (min) - 135lbs, (Max)-185lbs
Female (Min)-125lbs, (Max)-165lbs
