I will take an online course for further maths so I am able to develop my skills and improve them, I will also be
1. Application of able to access a college course for extra maths or I will be able to go to night school so I am able to get a higher
Number qualification in maths but I will be able to learn more and improve the knowledge I already have and gain more. I
would be able to access this by searching it on google and seeing what is available for myself and which is best
suited to me.
Also like the maths I would take an course which is higher than GCSE and improve my skills in ICT so I can learn
2. ICT more and become more in advanced with using technology this would help me within getting a job as most things
are all on technology nowadays and having a high qualification would allow me to do that. I will make sure that I
do this by doing an online course by finding it online and applying for it.
Improving my communication would help me to speak more clearer and in the right context with people. I will
3. Communication also be able to learn new things about communication and how to speak the right way to people how to act to show
I am interested in what they say. I will be able to attend courses which are available to people about the correct
way to use communication in every scenario possible.
COMMUNICATION
Communication may be formal or informal, personal or impersonal, creative or factual. Messages may be delivered verbally, in writing or non-
verbally. There are many areas where examples of each communication approach may have been successfully applied, at university, at work, at
home, etc
Written - Ability to express self well in writing Ability to express self well in writing
Evidence I have to show I am able to express self well in writing is I have a CV, I made the document so I was
able to apply for jobs. In this document I have written a personal statement which is a short paragraph
describing myself, it also include my education, work history, hobbies and references. I also write letters to my
auntie who lives in a different country, I will write about things that have happened and ask how she is and
how the family is, I will write 2 to 4 letters in a month to her depending on how fast she replies to me. I
recently created a personal statement for a job which I was wanting, I wrote a small paragraph (5-7 lines)
expressing my interest in this job and made sure it was formal. At work throughout the team meetings I will sit
and write down the minutes from the meetings and what everyone has said such as ways to improve the
workplace, things they want to change and more.
Verbal:
Informal – ability to network easily with other people
I recently booked a holiday for me and my family, I rang the company and spoke to one of their workers to
arrange a holiday package which would include the flights and accommodation for me and my family. We spoke
about the different packages they had available for the dates I wanted to go away for and the prices of them all,
type of seating I would want on the flights if I wanted to reserve any seats. When I started college I made friends
with some of the people in my class by communicating with them and getting to know them, I also did this at work
I introduced myself to everyone and got to know them.
Non-verbal:
Listening – ability to attend actively to others’ views and ideas and understand their point of view
If any of my friends have any issues or problems going on, I will listen to them if they need to talk to someone
and give my full attention to them when they are talking so they know that I care about them and I am there to
help. Whilst I was learning to drive I listened to my instructor on how to drive and what to do whilst driving and to
prove I did that I have passed my driving test. When in college in my lessons, I listen to the tutors when they are
teaching us new things and take notes on what is being said when needed to, I will also listen to when they are
handing a new assignment out, I will listen to what needs to be done and do it, as I listened well and took good
notes I was able to get a distinction in my first year of college and I will continue in the second year to do the
same.
Body Language – ability to match body language appropriately to what is being said verbally
When it is informal communication then my body language might be slouched and I may not maintain eye contact
with the people speaking as they know I will still listen, when in interviews or doing presentations in class I make
sure that my body language gives the impression that I am listening and interested. Recently in an interview I
had, I sat correctly in the chair I was sat in, my back straight, good facial expressions (smiling) and constant eye
contact. This helped me give a good impression to the employer as I was showing I was interested in what they
was saying and that I wanted the job.
Working with others is a skill highly valued by employers. Suitable evidence for this skill need not be limited to
work experience. You should think of all aspects of your work, studies and social life.
Sensitivity- Ability to respond appropriately to individual differences, e.g., age, gender, etc.
At NCS I was in a team with different people of ages and gender, one person had additional needs, the first week
when we had to do bonding and team activities. I was able to work well with everyone in my team and we all
made sure that the person with the additional needs did not feel left out and we helped them do all the activities
they were able to do so they did not feel left out. Whilst working alongside the charity as well I made sure that
everyone there didn’t get the wrong impression of me, I talked to as many people as I could and made a lot of
friends with them all.
APPLICATION OF NUMBER
Interpretation - Ability to interpret descriptive statistics, e.g. ratios percentages, means, standard deviations
- Ability to interpret inferential statistics, e.g., confidence intervals, statistical significance, effect size
I can interpret ratios, percentages and means. The evidence I have to show this is that I got an overall A on my
maths GCSE, this shows that I was able to do everything on the test. I passed the test on those topics within the
lessons I had in maths, I also did further maths in which I looked into that further and got taught more about it.
Doing intervals and effect size is something I have evidence for with my grade after my GCSE exam in it.
Word Processing - Ability to use a word processing package to produce a variety of formats of documents
I have a CV which is saved on to my google docs and is ready if I am ever in need of applying for a job, I used a
template for CV on the template section so it looked good and would stand out more when employers look at it. I
also use word to do my coursework on and I make sure the format I use for that is formal and plain as it is an
assignment and needs to look professional. Recently I had to create a brochure for an assignment so I had used a
template which was reasonably suitable for the topic and put all information required onto it.
Spreadsheets - Ability to use a spreadsheet to record and manipulate different sets of data
The evidence of this is I have my GCSE certificate for ICT and an entire unit was based on spreadsheets, I had to
make sure that I was able to use all the formulas and insert graphs into the spreadsheets. I also use spreadsheets
in work to workout the costs of the products we need and the selling the store does. I have also used it in a recent
assignment where I had to create a spreadsheet on the costs of a business.
PROBLEM SOLVING
Creativity - Ability to generate new ideas or conceive existing ideas in a new way
In NCS we had to work as a group to create a new idea of advertising the charity, we created fun and exciting
advertisements to post on social media to make our friends and families aware, we then thought of ways to get the
public involved by donating food so we set up activities to do in supermarkets where people were able to do it if
they donated food to us. We did it creatively as it would attract the customers more because it was something new
and different.
Organisation and Planning - Ability to set down a systematic sequence of activities and carry them through in an
effective manner
I use my calendar on my phone to put all appointments I have, assignment deadlines so I am able to plan my life
around things I have scheduled. I had to plan a group activity for my team in NCS so we was able to get to know
each other and be able to work well in a team, I had to make sure I used an object I was given and that the activity
would be beneficial for all and would help us bond well as a team.
Research - Ability to gather information in a systematic way to establish certain facts or principles
For an assignment I have recently done I had to gather research about the aims and visions the organisation has
and what type of advertisements they have, I did a lot of research on the organisation so I was able to complete
the assignment in as much as detail as possible. I did research linked to the facts I had about the organisation so I
was able to back up the things I was saying and made sure I had inserted it into my assignment.
Analysis - Ability to understand and summarise information (Detailed examination of structure and content)
I enjoy politics and I will spend my spare time when I am not working or in college reading about the latest that is
happening with the politics and I will make notes about what is happening. I enjoy talking about the facts I have
found out and wrote about to others and getting their opinions. I use a variety of sources to read about politics such
as different news papers, journals been written and more.
Self Management
Self-awareness – ability to identify and reflect on own strengths and weaknesses in relation to:
If I have any problems or if I am struggling with something then I will raise it up and ensure that I can get the
help needed to learn. I am able to point out my strengths and the evidence I have is that a document I have on
the website I created shows the strengths I have picked out and weaknesses I could improve. I am able to make
good use of my time when doing assignments I will work hard on them and make sure they are complete to the
best of my ability, I had a distinction from the first year to prove that I work hard on my assignments. I recently
created a five year plan which would help me plan what I am doing the next five years and I have updated my CV
so all the relevant details are on there.
Effective learning – ability to learn from a range of situations and apply learning in a variety of contexts
Listening to others is something I have been able to improve from playing basketball and cricket, I had to listen to
others or we would struggle to work well in a team. I made sure that I was listening to everyone and if they had
any suggestions for the team then I would listen so we worked effectively in matches as I started to do this often I
was able to use it in my studies and started to listen in lessons about what was being taught and understanding it
better.
Reasoning skills – ability to defend argument using logical and systematic thinking based on sound evidence
For my references in the assignments I have I will use search engine google for most of the evidence I need when
doing my assignments but I will look at books and try find specific things related. In school doing my native
american presentation I used facts from books in the library, the work I had done in class and I used google to get
all the information I needed for the presentation.
