2016 Birth Statistics
The number of births registered in 2016 had a total of 1,731,289 an decrease of about -0.77
percent compared to 1,744,767 births in 2015. In 2016, there was an average of 4,743 babies
born daily or 198 babies born per hour or three babies per minute.
With 1,731,289 of births in 2016, more males (903,694 or 52.20%) were born than females
(827,595 or 47.80%) which resulted to a sex ratio of 109 males per 100 females.
Around 60.0 percent of the total births in the country were born in Luzon, and the top three
regions in terms of number of live births were in this area.
National Capital Region (NCR) recorded the highest number with 241,061 births or 14 percent
of the total. Second and third in rank were the Region IV-A (CALABARZON) with 234,741
(13.5%) births and Region III (CENTRAL LUZON) with 189,153 (11%) births, respectively.
On the other hand, ARMM had the lowest number of registered births of only 26,675 (1.5%) of
the total.
Seven out of ten births were attended by medical professionals (Physician, Nurse, and Midwife)
with 68.2 percent of total births. This marked a decrease of .6 percent from last year’s figure of
67.6 percent live births that were medically attended.
Hilots/traditional birth attendants aided in the delivery of 31 percent of the total births
All regions showed an increasing trend on births attended by health professionals each passing
year. National Capital Region showed the highest proportion of births attended by health
professionals while ARMM showed the highest proportion of births attended by traditional or
Hilot.
Despite NCR (National Capital Region) is considered as the major contributor to birth, Cebu of
Region VII-Central Visayas got the most numbers with 98,274 or 67.46 percent, making it the
city with the highest numbers of birth in the whole country. Meanwhile, Batanes of Region II-
Cagayan Valley got 237 or .42 percent, making it the City with the lowest numbers of birth.

With 1,731,289 births, the group of 20-24 is the dominant range of age getting 28.17 percent
over the entire live births recorded for the year 2016, next to it is 25-29 with 444,205 or 25.66
percent and 30-34 which comes after with 322,878 or 18.65 recorded births. Meanwhile, there
were also recorded 1,903 and 387 births by under 15 and over 50 respectively.
