Pre-Operation
1.1 Only authorized and trained forklift drivers can draw the keys and operate the forklifts.
1.2 Wear safety shoes when operating the forklift at all times.
1.3 Before operating the forklift for the day, perform pre-operational checks.
1.4 Report all faults to the supervisor immediately. If the forklift is unsafe to be operated, return
the key to the store.
Safe Operation
1.5 Operate the forklift with caution at all times. Ensure that the forklift can be brought to a safe
stop at any time, taking into account the load, the operating surface and any other potential
hazard in the work area. No speeding is allowed.
1.6 Pay attention to the operating environment, including other persons, fixed or movable objects
at all times. Do not lift loads near or above other persons.
1.7 Ensure that clear vision is maintained during operation. Ask a co-worker to assist in guiding if
the view is restricted.
1.8 When making a turn, do it slowly and look out for possible obstruction, blind spot or hazards.
No sharp cornering is allowed. If necessary, horn to alert your presence.
1.9 Always check that there is adequate width or overhead clearance in the pathway.
1.10 Do not travel with the load raised too high. Secure and maintain proper balancing of the load
at all times.
1.11 Use the forklift for its intended purpose. Do not carry any person on the fork or allow
passenger to ride on the forklift. Do not horseplay when driving the forklift.
1.12 Assess the load before picking it up. Find out the weight of the load if you are unsure. Do not
overload the forklift.
1.13 Check the condition of the pallet used to carry the load before use. Do not use the pallet if it
is defective or not in good condition.
1.14 Set the width of the fork carefully. The spread shall be suitable for the width of the load to be
handled.
1.15 Ensure that the forks are inserted under the load as far as possible when using the forks to
pick up the load. Care must be taken to ensure that items beyond the loads are not disturbed
by the fork tips. Raise the forks sufficiently to engage the load.
1.16 Ensure that the loads are stable and safely arranged before lifting. Exercise particular care
when handling extra-long or high loads.
1.17 Lower the load carefully and on even grounds. If necessary, use wooden blocks (dunnage) to
facilitate the placement of the load and the withdrawal of the forks.
1.18 Park the forklift in a safe place or designated parking area at all times.
1.20 Shut off the power and remove the key from the forklift.
