FOREWORD

This business was established in 186G-seventy-nine years ago.

Since then, our aim has always been (and always will be) to devote
ourselveS, exclusively, to manufacturing tools of the very best quality.

Today, Kraeuter tools are considered by experts to be the highest

quality line in the world.

All our edged and gripping tools are scientifrcally heat treated and
hardened in automatic furnaces where the temperature is regulated
electrically without possibility of human error. This guarantees
absolute uniformity of temper, and tools of extra long life.

If you could walk through our factory and see the earnest pains-
taking care that is taken with even the slightest detail, you could not
fail to realize the superiority of Kraeuter tools.

From start to finish, nothing but perfect workmanship and the

KRAEUTER TOOLS OF QUALITY

STEEL
The first requisite of quality tools is good steel. It will be readily recognized that
pliers, chisels, punches, etc. are hand tools of varied and severe duties.
KRAEUTER tools are superior as hand tools because the composition is selected
to o6et thc best cutting edge and the heat-treating characteristics are selmted to give
toughness and elasticity where required.
Tool Steel, in the modern sense, does noi define only a composition. There is
probably no other grade of steel requiring the skill and control in melting and process-
ing that goes into the manufacture of high-grade tool steel. The Tool Jteal that is
used for KRAEUTER tools is selected at the source for application to each model any'
size ol tool,
To maintain the accuracy of stel selection and control that is needed for best per-
formance, uniformity and controlability of each melt is essential. Electric Funae Tool
.fsel is the only type possessing these desired characteristics. Open hearth me.lting
practice has advantages in tonnage production, but uniformity and controlability are
both sacrificed because chemical changes continue even as the melt is poured. E/actric
Fwnace ptactie starts with selected raw material of known composition, controls slag
and metal composition and reaction exactly as desired, and finishes with a steel constant
and uniform in composition and in hardening character.
The melting of the Electric Funace Tool Slael is so cootrolled that the product
can bc hald within several very definite ranges of hardenability and heat sensitivity, and
always within the fine-grained classification.

This control of composition and heat-treating characteristics is checked by methods

which test the response to heat-treatment. Data obtained for each lot of steel govern
the application to the proper type and size of tool. Thus each tool is made from steel
of just the right pharacteristics to suit its particular dimensions, shape, and duties.

FINISH
Pliers are made in several finishes Full Nickel, Dull Nickel, Tumble Nickel,
Full Polished, Blue Temper, Black and -Natural. Many industrial trades using pliers
do not need the finely nickeled and highly polished finish on their pliers. Therefore,
some styles and sizesof pliers are made in more than one 6nish and by eliminating
certdn grinding and polishing operations, lower prices are possible due to economies
in manufacture. The working qualities are not affected-the only diflerence is in the
6nish.
..K'' BRAND PLIERS
To meet the demand for low-priced tools for home, farm and occasional use, we
ofier "K" brand pliers. They are of good quality steel with hardened aod tempered
iaws and are fumished in 'blue temper" finish. The styles and sizes have been care-
fully selectcd as fast-selling numhrs.

Any tool proving unsatisfactory as to material or workmanship

should be returned direct to us for our examination. If found to be
defective, a prompt replacement will be made without clrarge.

Certificate of Test
Every "KRAEUTER" tool is thoroughly tested for its particular
use on a specially designed testing machine and slrould give the ut-
most satisfaction.

WHY DOES THE "KWI-KUT'' STAR DRILL CUT FASTER THAN THE ORDINARY STAR
D RI LL?
Because it only has to cut a.t the circumference of the circle, the center breaks out in lumps,
whereas the ordinary Star Drill must cut the entire surface of the hole. Furthermore, due to its
formatron, the broken material is eliminaied fiom the hole quickly.

GIVE ANOTHER ADVANTAGE,

The "KVI-KUT" Star Drill can be used to scoop out the surplus material from the hole.

4. HOW DO YOU START DRILLING HOLE?

Place the cutting edge where the hole is to be drilled and tap it lightly with a hammer, then
move it around about one-third of the way and tap it again, ihen .oue it around completing
the circle. Continue with light taps o{ thl hamme'r until'about l/n" deep. (This prevents ex-
cessive chipping from the sJ,face). Then use whatever blows of t'hZ ha..e, you .h'oor".
