COURSE DESCRIPTION

This course focuses on the essentials of Strategic Management. It broadens the


students understanding of the business / organization as a social entity that interacts with its
external environment. It provides the students a good grasp of the process of setting long
term direction and goals, including the subsequent management processes of planning,
implementing and controlling. It further takes into consideration, the local and international
environment and the circumstances surrounding the organization’s own internal resources,
competitive position and limitations.

It integrates perspectives learned from various business and non-business disciplines


such as organizational theory and behavior, business economics, production, human
resources, finance, information technology, marketing, corporate social responsibility and
ethics.

COURSE OBJECTIVES :

At the end of the course, the students are expected to:

1. Understand the Nature of Strategic Management, its benefits and pitfalls.


2. Develop and/or improve The Business Vision and Mission
3. Effectively conduct an External Assessment using various tools and techniques.
4. Properly implement a thorough Internal Assessment of the Organization.
5. Identify Strategies used by Modern Day Organizations, conduct an analysis in aid of
Strategic choice.
6. Understand the intricacies associated with Strategy Implementation
7. Evaluate Strategy Appropriateness
8. Understand the relevance of Business Ethics, Social Responsibility and Environmental
Sustainability in the conduct of Strategic Planning.

HOUSE RULES
1. Come to class on time, all the time. Maximum Allowable Absences shall be

2. Sign the attendance sheet (one in the morning and one for the afternoon session).
Notify your teacher in case of absence.
3. Put your celfone to silent mode and refrain from using it to call or text except in case of
emergency.
4. The use of personal laptops, tablets, etc shall be limited to course/subject use only
5. Use polite speech and body language. Unkind teasing and impolite behavior are
unacceptable.
6. Respect each other’s point of view.
7. Dress appropriately and professionally.
8. Do not cheat (do your own work and be sure no one can copy it). Plagiarism is not
allowed.
9. Participate actively to maximize academic learning time.
10. Observe cleanliness in the classroom. Throw scrap materials away at the end of the
class.
11. Integration of learning from other subjects / disciplines, Ethics and Corporate
Sustainability are encouraged for all class work. Extra points will be given for these
during recitation, assignments, quizzes and examinations.
