Do not connect your VAS 5054A via USB yet. First install the VAS-PC software.
Connecting to the diagnosis socket of the vehicle results in VAS 5054A being supplied with
voltage, thereby making it ready for operation. The blue status display on the front of the remote
head flashes at a rate of one second.
Connection of VAS 5054A to the diagnosis unit can be carried out wirelessly via Bluetooth or
using a USB cable. Once communication to the diagnosis unit has been setup, the status
display lights up permanently. When data is being sent via Bluetooth or USB, the status display
flashes according to the volume of data.
Connection via USB is only meant for special situations, such as for
configuration of the remote head. The USB cable connection is not
suitable for general use in the workshop area during normal vehicle
Note diagnosis.
To prevent unauthorised third party access to the diagnosis unit, it is essential for security
reasons that the following settings are selected in the Bluetooth software.
In the system controls, open option Bluetooth-Geräte (Bluetooth devices). From the Optionen
(Options) tab, select Verbindungen (Connections) and deactivate the setting Bluetooth-Geräte
können eine Verbindung mit diesem Computer herstellen (Bluetooth devices can create a
connection with this computer) for security reasons. It is recommended that the setting
Bluetooth-Symbol im Infobereich anzeigen (Show Bluetooth symbol in information area) is
activated (see Figure 1-1). The Bluetooth symbol is then displayed permanently in the
information section of the task bar.
Figure 1-1 Settings of Bluetooth software from Windows XP from Service Pack 2
To change the Bluetooth PIN, as described in the following chapter, VAS 5054A must first be
installed via USB.
A USB cable connection to VAS 5054A is required for the following application scenarios:
Configuration of VAS 5054A via Diagnosis Interface Configuration Utility (Bluetooth settings,
activation of installed buzzer, automatic deactivation).
Brief use in areas where no remote operation is permitted. For permanent use in the
workshop area via a USB connection, diagnosis interface VAS 5055 is available as an
alternative.
Brief, careful use with applications that require a particularly high performance connection
(e.g. update programming) to the vehicle.
Connect VAS 5054A to the diagnosis socket. Open the rubber cap on the front of VAS 5054A
and insert the mini USB connector of the supplied USB cable. Connect the USB- cable to a USB
