Quick Overview: Number The Stars

Your child will be learning about the World


War 2 and the holocaust during their 5th
grade history classes. I have taken this
opportunity to allow the students to read
about, listen to, and review members of the
holocaust to better understand how serious
the situation was and why it is such a big
piece of history. The book we will be
reading in our class during this nine-week
setting is called Number the Stars by Lois
Lowry. This book is about a little girl and
her family trying to save her friends family
who are Jews, from being discovered by
“Number the Stars” is an Award-winning
the Nazis. This book is recommended for
book that has received three awards.
ages 10-15 so it is perfect for your child's
age group and reading levels.

2. History- The Holocaust: here you can see a video on the holocaust and read through many different aspects of the
holocaust and the Nazi Era. I find the video to be very eye opening and allows you and your child to see what the

3. The Holocaust Encyclopedia: here you and your child can click on links that will take you to certain time points in
