Her vision of melody, harmony and arrangement helped to shape the sound of Swans, the legendary band
that came to prominence in the 1980s. Already beginning in that era, but more prolifically since the band’s
1997 demise, Jarboe explores the uncharted and magical dimensions of sound, with haunting results.

Navigating with keyboards, guitars (bass, acoustic and electric), organs, pianos, chimes and the xylophone,
Jarboe narrates her expeditions with an astounding vocal range and non-verbal expression, known as
soundscapes or sonospheres (an ostensible instrumental of which the human voice is an essential
component). Wordless vocalising with breathing, sighs and whispers all play a part in her repertoire of
sound.

In the 1990s Jarboe established herself as an independent international performer and autonomous
Internet pioneer (thelivingjarboe.com). She features in Andrea Juno’s book Angry Women in Rock, Adele
Gladwell's Catamania and Take The Cannoli by Sarah Vowell.

Besides 25 solo albums and her Swans legacy, her œuvre includes more than 70 collaborations with and
contributions to the work of musicians and visual artists from North America, Europe and Japan. Her ever
expanding roster of collaborators includes Philip Anselmo, Bill Laswell, Blixa Bargeld, Justin K Broadrick,
Byla, Brian Castillo, Cobalt, Attila Csihar, Envie, Father Murphy, William Faith, Jesu, Larsen, Lustmord, Helen
Money, Neurosis, Diana Obscura, Oxbow, PanSonic, Lary Seven, Steven Severin, Jim Thirlwell, Cedric
Victor-DeSouza, Vampillia, Veil of Thorns, Wim Van De Hulst and P Emerson Williams.

A supernatural element accompanies Jarboe’s missions across all periods and genres, from the ambient
through the baroque to the torch, trance, tribal and the vaguely defined ones like ‘apocalyptic folk,’ ‘dark
wave,’ ‘doom metal’ and ‘post-rock.’ Its expression goes both ways, from the lofty to the hellish extreme.
Her interest in belief systems became overtly expressed in the first decade of the century with the release
of the Magick series and the MahaKali related albums.

As a truly independent and uncompromising artist, Jarboe has never cultivated acceptance by the
mainstream, which is regrettable as the mystical beauty of her music merits a wider audience.

On 14th December 2018, Translation Loss Records will release Jarboe’s album The Cut of the Warrior in
compact disc, maroon vinyl and limited edition colour vinyl. The seven tracks include three alternate mixes,
one by Byla with whom Jarboe collaborated on the acclaimed album Viscera.

In “Jarboe & Father Murphy” c’erano i segni resa finale

I figli del Reverendo Murphy si sono sciolti, e lo hanno annunciato, poche settimane fa, con un’immagine
inequivocabile condivisa sui social. Erano tornati a settembre con l’ultimo atto: Chiara Lee e Federico
Zanatta si erano uniti all’artista americana Jarboe per dare alla luce l’Ep Jarboe & Father Murphy in uscita il
22 settembre per Consouling Sounds.

Due tracce, al suo interno, che hanno inciso ancora più nel profondo il solco della psichedelia occulta
italiana. The Ferryman è una trance ecstasica: la naturale dilatazione sonora della tappa precedente,
quella Lamentation che, nel 2015, aveva posto il sigillo sulla trilogia della croce. La performance vocale è
l’elemento di forza di questo mantra soffuso che si staglia su un unico manto cromatico, dissonante
rispetto alla voce: un vortice che ingoia, appesantito dai colpi stanchi di chitarra, ulteriore ostacolo lungo
un cammino che conduce verso mete invisibili.
