INTRODUCTION
For todays Digital Generation, Accuracy for computing the grades
of the students are required. Discovering a computerized grading
system for k-12 Program is a useful and helpful system to be
used. A new grading system will be used in assessing new
learners and was described to be as a standard and competency-
based grading system. Grades will be based on the weighted raw
score of the learners’ summative assessments. According to the
research the Philippines’ Department of Education has
recently issued an order last April 1, 2015 that includes the “new
grading system” for K to 12 to be used for the upcoming SY 2015
to 2016. With the implementation of the new grading system,
teachers in public and private schools will bid goodbye to KPUP
(Knowledge, Performance, Understanding and Product)
Grading System as the latest K to 12 grading system has fewer
components – Written Work, Performance Tasks, and
Quarterly Assessment.

3.1.2 BACKGROUND

According to the research, In 2012, the grading system implemented by

DepEd became controversial with parents and students complaining about
its “accuracy.” Instead of the traditional numerical values, the grades on the
report cards of students appeared as letters as per DepEd Order No. 31
Series of 2012 or “Policy Guidelines on the Implementation of Grades 1 to
12 Basic Education Curriculum (BEC) Effective School Year 2012-
2013.”However, in the recently released DepEd Order No. 8, it is indicated
that numerical grades will be used to assess and rate learning outcomes of
students. Luistro said that the K to 12 Basic Education Program uses a
“standards-and competency-based grading system” which are “found in the
curriculum guides.” All grades, he added, “will be based on weighted raw
scores of the learners’ summative assessments” which will focus on three
components including Written Work (WW), Performance Task (PT), and
Quarterly Assessment (QA). For Grades 1 to 10, WW, PT, and QA which
will be “the bases for grading” with “the average of the Quarterly Grades
(QG) produces the final grade.”

Effective School Year 2015-2016, DepEd will implement new grading.

3.2 PROJECT SCOPE
3.2.1 In Scope Functionality
Students will expect 60 as the minimum grade needed to pass a
specific learning area, which is then transmuted to 75 in
the report card. The lowest mark that can appear on thereport
card is 60 for Quarterly Grades and Final Grades,
the Policy Guidelines on Classroom Assessment for the K to
12 Basic Education Program said.
In a grading System, there is one quarterly assessment but there
should be instances for students to produce Written Work and to
demonstrate what they know and can do through performances
tasks. There is no required number of written work and
performances tasks, but there must be spread out over the
quarter and used to learners skills after each unit has been
taught.
