The 3D’s
The 3D’s are linked to your 8 strategies.
Whilst completing your comprehension cloze, ask yourself:

1. Does it make sense?

This helps to ensure that your answer is appropriate in the given context. You have to look at
the first 3 strategies and the meaning of the text in order to get the correct answer.

2. Does it sound right?

More often than not, we know that there is something wrong in a sentence structure when we
read it out aloud. By sounding it out, together with Strategies 4 to 8, you will hopefully be able
to use the correct grammar item.

3. Does it look right?

Mean
This is not an exact science … however, if you simply do not know how to spell the word, write
out variations of it and see if you can identify the correct one.
