 SET PARAMETER IN THE METER.

SETTING THE METER: -

Before putting the instrument in service –

It has to be programmed for CT & PT ratio.

To ensure proper communication, set the correct –

• The unit ID.

• The Baud rate.

Also ensure the Auxiliary Power Supply (rated 24V DC).

To program the METER for the above parameters, 04 keys are provided viz. PROGRAM key PRG , UP Key

,DOWN key  & the ENTER Key 

1) First connect the rated Auxiliary Supply with correct polarity & switch ‘ON’ the instrument.

2) Pressing the PRG key, ‘2000’ will be displayed. Press the
key to set ‘2006’, which is the password of
the unit & common to all the units.

3) Now Press the  Key. The unit will display SET CTR. Again press the  KEY to enter the desired CT
primary. Now press the
or  keys to set the CT primary value. CT primary can be set between 1-
4000A in steps of 1A. Once the desired value is displayed, again press the  Key. The unit’s CT primary
is now set.

4) Pressing the
key, the unit will display CT SECONDARY. It can be set either 1A or 5A. By pressing  key,
enter into setting mode. Press
key to select 1A secondary or press  key to select it to 5A secondary .

5) Now Press the  Key & press the
key. . The unit will display SET PT. Again press the  KEY to enter
the desired PT primary. Now press the
or  keys to set the PT primary value. PT primary can be set
between 3.3KV-400KV in steps of 1KV. Once the desired value is displayed, again press the  Key. The
unit’s PT primary is now set.

6) Now Press the  Key & press the
key. . The unit will display SET PT. Again press the  KEY to enter
the desired PT secondary. Now press the
or  keys to set the PT secondary value. PT secondary can
be set between 100V-110V in steps of 1V. Once the desired value is displayed, again press the  Key.
The unit’s PT secondary is now set.

7) Now Press the  Key & press the
key. , the unit will display INTEGRATION TIME. It can be set either
15 Min. or 30 Min. By pressing  key, enter into setting mode. Press
key to select 15 Min. or press  key
to select it to 30 Min.

8) Once again press the
key. The unit will display UNIT ID. Press the  Key to enter the desired unit
ID. Now press the
or  key to set the unit ID. Unit ID can set for any value between 1 to 250. Once
the desired value is displayed, again press the  Key. The unit’s ID is now set & the unit will again
display UNIT ID.

9) Next pressing the
key, the unit will display ‘ BAUD ’ & its default value. Press the  key to enter the
desired baud rate. Now press the
or  key to set the baud rate. The baud rate can set for any
standard values of 2400, 4800, or 9600. Once the desired value is displayed, again press the  key .
The unit’s BAUD is now set & the unit will again display ‘BAUD’.

10) Next pressing the
key, the unit will display “SyS”. Press the  key to enter the desired System
Configuration. Now press the
or  key to set the System Configuration. The meter can be set in either Star
(StAr) or Delta (dLtA) configuration. Once the desired System Configuration is displayed, again press the 
key. The unit’s System Configuration is now set.

11) Next Pressing the
key, the unit will displays SET RTC. By pressing  key unit will display SET
HOUR again press  key it will display default value. . Now press the
or  key to set hour. Press the
 key & Press
key it will display SET MINUTE. Again press  key it will display default value. . Now
press the
or  key to set minute press  key. In this way set DATE & TIME to come out of the RTC
setting press PRG key. Normally it is factory set.

12) Again press  key & press
key the unit will display ‘SAVE’. Press  key to save the set values & quit. If
you don’t want to save the values & want to quit without saving, press the
key and the unit will display
‘QUIT’. Press the  key to quit without saving .

13) Now the Instrument is set & ready to put into service. Switch OFF the Power Supply & connect the CT &
PT secondary correctly. Switch ON the power supply & the instrument will continuously display the set
parameters.

14) The set values are stored in non-volatile memory & are retained indefinitely even in absence of
Auxiliary Power Supply.

MODBUS Function DETAILS: -

The output of ACCORD make Multi-Function Meter Model MFM-02 is through RS-485 Communication port &
uses the MODBUS RTU Protocol. The output can be directly given to a SCADA system or any other Data
Acquisition system, operating on the same Protocol.

The MODBUS protocol generates the format for the master’s query & places it on the device address as well
as on the function code defining the requested action, data to be sent and on the error-checking field. The
protocol also constructs the slave’s response message. This message also contains fields confirming the
action to be taken, any data that is to be returned, and the error-checking field.

If an error occurs in receipt of the message or if the slave is not able to perform the requested action, then
the slave will construct an error message and will send it as its response.

The interface (connection) between the Data Acquisition system and the transducer is established using
twisted pair screened wire & all +ve & -ve terminals are multi-drop connected. Ensure proper earth
connection to avoid any possibility of loop currents.

Ensure matching of impedances of the termination load and that of the wire at both ends of the line.

The maximum length of RS-485 network is limited to 3900 feet (1200 meters) & the maximum number of
demand controller that can be connected is limited to 31.

The unique addresses of each MFM-03 can be set to any value between 1 and 250.

The format for each byte in RTU mode is as follows.

Coding system : 8-bit binary, hexadecimal 0-9, A-F

Two hexadecimal characters are contained in each 8-bit field of the message
Function Code : 03 for read & 06 for write.
Data Format : 32 bit or 16 bit as mentioned in the table below. Most significant byte first.
Error checking field : 2 byte CRC (cyclical redundancy check).
Bits per byte : 1 start bit
8 data bits
1 parity bit - none
1 stop bit if parity is used & 1 or 2 bits if no parity is used.
Transmission speed : 2400, 4800, or 9600 bps.
Note that all the settings are user configurable, only at the instrument end.
