throughout the U.S.
AEE is currently approved to provide training through the WIA in the following
U.S. states as of this printing: California, Colorado, Georgia, Idaho, Kentucky,
Maine, Massachusetts, Minnesota, Montana, New York, Nevada, North Carolina,
Oklahoma, Oregon, South Carolina, Vermont, Virginia, and Washington. An up-to-
date listing of states in which AEE is an approved training provider may be found
at www.aeecenter.org/stimulusfunding.
CERTIFIED ENERGY
MANAGER
As AEE’s first and most widely recognized professional certification, the CEM credential
is now used by many corporations and government agencies as a prerequisite in job
descriptions for energy management related positions. Earning the right to put the ini-
tials “CEM” behind your name gives you many advantages in advancing your career.
AEE currently offers four preparatory seminars for those wishing to prepare for the CEM
exam. (See pages 10, 11, 12, and 32.) Students and others who can pass the CEM exam,
but do not meet other criteria for the CEM credential, may apply for Energy Manager in
Training (EMIT) certification. For more information, visit www.aeecenter.org/certification.
RENEWABLE ENERGY
PROFESSIONAL
The Renewable Energy Professional (REP) certification is designed to recognize the
expertise of professionals involved in the specification and application of renewable
and alternative energy technologies, assessment of renewable energy projects, and
development of achievable low-carbon and sustainability goals for organizations.
AEE’s REP training seminars provide an excellent resource for those preparing to sit
for the REP exam. (See pages 13 and 32.)
CERTIFIED SUSTAINABLE
DEVELOPMENT PROFESSIONAL
AEE’s Certified Sustainable Development Professional (CSDP) provides recognition for
professionals who have distinguished themselves as leaders in the sustainable develop-
ment field, having demonstrated high levels of technical expertise in energy manage-
ment, renewable energy, and environmental practices. AEE provides a refresher course
for those preparing to sit for the CSDP examination. (See pages 15 and 34.)
CERTIFIED
ENERGY AUDITOR
Rising energy costs and inefficiency in plants and buildings is continually driving the
need for trained and experienced energy auditors. AEE’s Certified Energy Auditor (CEA)
certification is one that identifies professionals as having the required knowledge and
experience needed to succeed in the growing field of energy auditing. AEE’s CEA training
seminars provide an excellent preparatory tool for the CEA exam. (See pages 16 and 33.)
RESIDENTIAL ENERGY
AUDITOR
AEE’s Residential Energy Auditor (REA) certification program recognizes professionals
with energy auditing expertise and experience specific to assessing residential ener-
gy use. Preparatory seminars provide a refresher program for REA exam candidates.
(See pages 17 and 33.)
CERTIFIED BUILDING
COMMISSIONING PROFESSIONAL
The process of building commissioning has continued to gain momentum over the last
several years. AEE’s CBCP program is designed to recognize the most qualified profes-
sionals in this growing area. Two seminars are offered as preparatory vehicles for those
taking the CBCP exam. (See pages 21 and 22.)
EXISTING BUILDING
COMMISSIONING PROFESSIONAL
AEE’s Existing Building Commissioning Professional (EBCP) certification provides
recognition for qualified professionals with expertise in the area of retrofitting existing
buildings into more sustainable, efficient facilities while meeting existing building com-
missioning criteria. The preparatory seminar Fundamentals of Existing Building Commis-
sioning serves as a refresher program for EBCP exam candidates. (See page 23.)
CERTIFIED MEASUREMENT
& VERIFICATION PROFESSIONAL
Jointly developed by AEE and the EVO, the Certified Measurement & Verification Profes-
sional (CMVP) certification program is offered with the dual purpose of recognizing the
most qualified professionals in this growing area of the energy industry and raising the
overall professional standards within the M&V field. AEE offers an excellent training sem-
inar for those preparing to take the CMVP exam. (See page 24.)
CERTIFIED BUSINESS
ENERGY PROFESSIONAL
The designation “BEP” is intended to recognize the achievements of those who are in-
volved in the non-technical side of the energy management profession, including those
who supervise and manage technical professionals in energy, interface with customers
as utility account representatives, and market energy-efficient products. AEE provides a
refresher course for those preparing to sit for the BEP exam. (See pages 21 and 33.)
CERTIFIED ENERGY
PROCUREMENT PROFESSIONAL
An increasing number of individuals have developed specialized expertise on both the
purchasing side and the selling side of the energy marketplace. AEE’s CEP profession-
al certification provides a defined standard against which this expertise may be estab-
lished and demonstrated. In addition to meeting professional qualifications and passing
an exam, this certification also requires the completion of a three-day training program.
(See page 27.)
DISTRIBUTED GENERATION
CERTIFIED PROFESSIONAL
The earning of the DGCP credential requires the demonstration of a comprehensive
knowledge of the principles, practices, and laws which apply to the field of distributed
generation and onsite power generation. DGCPs include engineers, managers, attor-
neys, consultants, and others with a broad base of distributed generation-related expe-
rience. AEE offers a training seminar for DGCP candidates. (See page 28.)
CERTIFIED POWER
QUALITY PROFESSIONAL
The Certified Power Quality (CPQ) professional program has helped to define standards
within this increasingly important field, and to certify those who have demonstrated spe-
cial expertise in the area of power quality and reliability. In addition to meeting profession-
al qualifications and passing an exam, the CPQ certification also requires the completion
of a three-day training program. (See page 30.)
CERTIFIED GREEN
BUILDING ENGINEER
AEE’s Certified Green Building Engineer (GBE) credential is available to licensed profes-
sional engineers who fulfill the Certified Energy Manager (CEM) requirements — includ-
ing passing the CEM exam — and complete the GBE certification application process.
GBE certification does not require a separate exam.
CERTIFIED GEOEXCHANGE
DESIGNER
AEE’s Certified GeoExchange Designer (CGD) program is designed to recognize profes-
sionals who have demonstrated high levels of expertise in applying the principles and
practices of geothermal heat pump design and related disciplines. The CGD certifica-
tion is granted by the Association of Energy Engineers and sponsored by the Geother-
mal Heat Pump Consortium® (GHPC). Associated training programs are presented by the
International Ground Source Heat Pump Association (IGSHPA).
CERTIFIED IN THE
USE OF RETSCREEN®
Introduced in 2011, the Certified in the Use of RETScreen® (CRU) professional
certification is designed to recognize individuals who have demonstrated a high
level of knowledge and competence in utilizing RETScreen® Clean Energy Project
Analysis software. AEE’s CRU training seminar provides an excellent preparato-
ry tool for those preparing to sit for the CRU exam. (See page 19.)
