COMMUNITY HEALTH

Advocacy

Introduction

Health covers many aspects that involve people well-being and health safety. No one can

confirm to the fact that all is taken care of under the discussed subject considering different

health needs competing and inadequate resources availability needed to over health care as

recommended (SARR, (January 01, 2013).). Based on this particular ground, the situation acts as

the impetus leading to the establishment of advocacy so as to improve health in our communities.

Advocacy refers to the act of an individual or a group taking a firm stand concerning a specific

issue and afterward initiate an action strategy which focuses on influencing public and private

policy choices. Hence, deducing from the definition, the advocacy plan in this particular

presentation will focus on the HIV/AID population in the community and push for a proper

health care for this group as well (SARR, (January 01, 2013).). The approach aspect of advocacy

may differ as much as various perceptions that make up a community defers.

HIV/AIDs Issue

We all have the general idea of how a community can get formed, in most cases it gets

based on different circumstances. These talked about circumstances can include, area type, a

health issue, and leadership among many other aspects. In this particular case, the target

population is the HIV infected group with an advocacy to push for proper medication and

affordable drug to also get availed in the community. HIV/AIDs are among the world’s top

terminal disease and the rate of infection in society has shown a steady rising graph over the

years (Loue, 2013). For instance, communities in Africa seem to fall, victims, when it comes to

HIV awareness, prevention, and treatment. Considering that most communities constitute of

individuals who operate with a budget of less than a dollar in one day, no electricity, health

facilities are far, they cannot afford the drugs, and have no clue on how to prevent themselves

from getting infected.

Through utilizing various approaches to advocacy, we will get to find the primary issues

and the plea of affected individuals in the community so as to know exactly what we should

advocate for, in order to improve the health care in the community. A bottom-up approach will

help in interacting with the affected population and find out the needs and goals to be achieved in

the long run (Loue, 2013). Also, the top-down approach will be necessary to coincide our

motives with research conducted from outside the community by professionals. There may be

several issues present in the community but still fall under the same category as our mission, it

will be prudent to utilize organizing and mobilizing approach so as to separate this issues and

merge those within the mission setting from those, not within our capacity.

Advocacy approach and strategies

Advocacy strategies are very important as it stimulates the action to be taken. This aspect

will require the power of social organization to be exercised via public function formulated and

gears towards demonstrating the voice of the people (Lam, 2015). These strategies include;

Media: which will provide public awareness and harness more task force associated with the

group to push for more reforms.

Legislative bodies: like for the case of drug prices, this particular body can help in coming up

with laws that can establish standard drug price and affordable to the infected individuals in the

community (Lam, 2015).

Courts: it will help in fighting for the rights of the people, hence where they have been denied

appropriate care by the law then the courts will help restore proper health care.

Regulatory processes: an approach to various pharmaceutical companies and other drugs

regulatory organization such as food and drug administration, will help to establish rules over the

HIV/AIDs care system to cater for all people as well as providing adequate support in terms of

prevention, care, and treatment in a more ethical way.

Through all, the main agenda of the advocacy initiation is to address the challenges

people who are in HIV/AIDs community-based face and try and come up with a solution through

analyzing their current situation. The advocacy group pushes for affordable drugs for HIV

patients as the primary agenda. Also, among the concerns is enough awareness and formal

education about HIV/AIDs which through the legislative body and media we will achieve proper

information released to people (Lam, 2015). Development of medical clinics either permanent or

mobile will be able to over drugs, treatment and also counseling which is mandatory to the

community living with the disease. Demonstrations and other public conventions will provide

the power of the people’s voice which will stir the push for changes agenda and help the group

attain its goal as well as ensuring proper health care of the community (Lam, 2015).

Conclusion

It is important to critically analyze the mode of health care in our society and community

around us. Some particular groups go through a lot due to inadequate resources and lack of

proper awareness when it comes to health issues. For instance, like people living with HIV/AIDs

in a community, some are parents and they have families, in order to provide for them one needs

proper medical care and sufficient resources. Expensive drugs, lack of health centers, lack of

information, and lack of proper treatment will not help the situation but rather increase the

casualties. Advocacy either individually or within a group will help bold the issues and push for

reforms hence improving the health condition of the affected community.
