Acceptance of Information Technology: Toward a Unified View

To have a detailed review of user acceptance literature with its prominent models, compare the
models with is extensions, come up with a unified model that integrates elements in all models,
and finally to validate the unified models empirically.
Design / Methodology / Approach (How are the objectives achieved? Include the main methods
used for the research and the approach to the topic.):

 Providing a review of all the eight elements in technology acceptance models

 Use data from four organizations over the six-months with three main focuses which are
explaining the eight models between 17% and 53% of the variance on how various users
intend to use technology. Another focus is on an overview of the unified model known as
UTAUT which contains four significant determinants of usage and intentions and finally
four analyses of moderators of critical relationships.
 Another way of how the objectives get achieved is through a test of the UTAUT using
original data to understand its performance over the eight individual models.
Main Points / Findings / Conclusions (What are the main points? What was found in the course
of the work, and what are the major conclusions? This will refer to analysis, discussion, or
results.):

 UTAUT outperforms the eight models with an adjust of R^ of 69 percent

 UTAUT tested using two new organizations show a similar result of R^ of 70 percent
 UTAUT is a more useful tool for managers to assess the ability of users to adopt new
technology and also provide an understanding of acceptance drivers for a proactive
design of interventions geared to a specific population that can be influenced to adopt
new technology.
 The paper also recommends future research to help understand more about the
influences; proper review of the core measures used in UTAUT and shed more light on
organizations outcomes caused by new technology use.
 This paper also advances the research on personal acceptance by unifying all
perspectives theoretically which are common in literature and including the four
moderators to explain dynamic influences including user experience, demographic
characteristics, and organizational contexts.

Implications to Practice and Knowledge (What outcomes and implications for practice and
knowledge as well as applications and consequences are identified?):

The contribution to knowledge consists of a comprehensive literature research summary of

UTAUT technology and its uses. The literature research is used as the basis to assert
propositions to the effects that UTAUT and the eight models individually on user acceptance an
influence over using new technology. The proposals are then linked with managers to help them
understand their user’s ability to adopt new technology and finding the best way to use as a tool
to achieve their objective with new technology at hand or which measures to take.
Critique (Which parts of the paper you like, and which parts of the paper you don’t like? Why?):

The article has a well-flowed explanation to details about user acceptance of information
technology. The eight modules get overviewed in a way that the reader understands its pros and
cones based on the advantages discussed and the disadvantages. A further comparison of the
eight models to the UTAUT characteristic have detailed an analysis that results as UTAUT as the
best tool for managers when it comes to user acceptance of new information technology. It is a
part if the article that I like and found more beneficial to me as a reader.
On the other hand what I did not like about this research paper is how is more concentrated in
explaining the eight models to details only for the reader to find limited information about the
UTAUT which turns out to be the best tool and the reason why the article us researched in the
first place. I do feel the research paper should have outlined on the comparison of the eight
models and UTAUT as it has appropriately done but concentrate more on providing more
information and details for the manager about UTAUT and ways it can be implemented to
achieve a better understanding of users acceptance of new information technology.
