Question 2
The OU– OSU football game is tied and only enough time remains on the clock
for one last field goal attempt for the Cowboys. The ball will be kicked from the
45-yard (41m) line. The cross bar of the goal post is 10ft (3.0m) high and lies 10
yards (9.1m) behind the goal line. If the ball leaves the kicker’s foot at an angle
of 40° to the ground, what initial velocity is required in order for OSU to win the
ball game?
a. Find initial velocity required for OSU to win the game.
b. Find the time the football is in the air from when it’s kicked to when it hits
the ground.
c. Find the final velocity it hits the ground at. Find the vertical acceleration
of ball at its highest position.
d. Find horizontal acceleration of ball after it is kicked
Question 3
Wonder Woman is on top of a 500 m building, with a bow and arrow, and is
aiming horizontally at the Joker who is 250 m away on a helicopter also 500 m
from the ground. The Joker is trying to jump off safely unto the ocean below.
a. Find how fast the arrow must be shot at to hit the Joker before he
escapes.
b. If the arrow is shot faster will it still hit its target? Explain.
c. Find the acceleration of the arrow in all directions.
d. Draw position-time, velocity-time, and acceleration-time graphs of arrow.
e. Draw position-time, velocity-time, and acceleration-time graphs of Joker.
Question 4
A 1500 Kg car starts at rest and accelerates up to 15 m/s in 5 seconds. It then
crashes into an unmovable wall and comes to a stop in 0.1 seconds.
a. Calculate the force of the car before it hits the wall.
b. Calculate the force exerted on the car by the wall.
c. Calculate the force exerted on the wall by the car.
Question 5
You throw a ball vertically up from the edge of a tall building (800m). It leaves
your hand at 20 m/s. On it’s way down the ball misses the building and it
continues in free fall.
a. Find the position and velocity of the ball after it leaves your hand at 5
second and then at 10 seconds.
b. Find velocity of ball when it is 10 m from the starting point.
c. Find the maximum height the ball travels.
d. Find the acceleration of the ball when at its max height.
e. Draw position-time, velocity-time, and acceleration-time graphs of ball.
Question 6
The position of particle A is modeled by the equation, 𝒚(𝒕) = 𝟐𝒙𝟐 + 𝟓𝒙 + 𝟒.
The acceleration of particle B is modeled by the equation, 𝒚(𝒕) = 𝟔𝒙 + 𝟒.
a) Find an expression that models particle A’s velocity and acceleration.
b) Find an expression that models particle B’s velocity and position.
Question 7
The “Giant Swing” ride at the state fair (shown below) rotates at constant
velocity and causes the riders to swing out at an angle of 30 degrees. The
average mass of all riders is 80kg.
a) Draw a free body diagram of the rider.
b) Find how long it takes for one complete revolution.

Question 8
Batman is standing atop Wayne tower (500m). The Joker is standing on the
ground 1.5km away. He recently stole a Wayne Enterprises Smart Rocket
Launcher. The launcher is aimed at 50 degrees from the ground.

a. Draw a free-body diagram of the rocket showing all forces acting on it.
b. Calculate the distance the rocket travels in 10 seconds.
c. Draw a force-time diagram and an acceleration-time diagram of the
rocket.
Question 10: A race car with mass of 1000Kg is rounding a banked curved of
radius 50m and an angle of 30⁰. There is ice on the road so assume there is no
friction. See picture below.

a.) Find the maximum velocity at which the car can travel around the curve
safely.
b.) What will happen to the car if it goes faster than the velocity found above?
c.) What will happen to the car if it travels slower than the velocity found
above?
d.) At what banked curve angle can the car travel safely around a similar curve
but at a velocity of 50 m/s?
